Thurber has an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Project Coordinator to join our team in Edmonton, Alberta. Thurber provides geotechnical, environmental and construction materials engineering and testing services for a variety of industries across Canada. Our multidisciplinary expertise allows us to work on problems related to earth, the environment and construction materials. We solve problems in a wide variety of industries including transportation, building construction, municipal infrastructure, land development, dams and water resources, industrial development, mining, oil and gas, marine and environmental services.

Responsibilities

As our Environmental Project Coordinator, you will support our Prairies Regional Environmental team in managing and supporting environmental projects, ensuring they stay on schedule, within budget, and compliant with local regulations.

- Managing a project portfolio that includes regulatory monitoring and reporting, Phase 1, 2, 3 ESAs, site remediations, and environmental risk assessment and management.
- Ensuring all work adheres to environmental laws, and health and safety standards and promoting and maintaining a positive health safety culture.
- Supervising and coordinating work of field and office project teams and providing general technical direction.
- Collecting and analyzing environmental data, preparing technical reports and regulatory forms, and maintaining project performance metrics and requirements, including project budgets, schedules, resourcing, invoicing, and communications.
- Acting as a point of contact for clients, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, and supervising contractors or vendors.
- Occasionally travelling to project sites and completing site meetings, inspections, and reconnaissance, as required.
- Supporting business development efforts and strategies.




- Supporting the training and mentoring of junior staff.

Qualifications and Assets

- Technical diploma or bachelor’s degree in environmental science or a directly related discipline.
- 6 to 8 years of relevant experience in environmental consulting, site assessment, or relevant environmental project coordination.
- 1 to 2 years of project coordination or management experience and knowledge of upstream oil and gas operations is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of Alberta environmental regulations.
- Ground disturbance training.
- Detail oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.
- Strong technical, oral, and written communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team in various environments.
- Proficiency with standard office software (Excel, Word, etc.)
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to travel to local and remote site locations.
