Altex Industries Inc. is a leading Canadian manufacturer and field service provider specializing in the design, fabrication, and servicing of industrial air coolers, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, and related equipment for the Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Power Generation, and Industrial sectors.
We are currently looking for an experienced Assistant Manager, Field Projects to join our Field Services team in Edmonton, Alberta.
Reporting to the Manager, Field Projects, the Assistant Manager, Field Projects will support the planning, coordination, and successful execution of Altex field projects. This position provides leadership and support to our Project Coordinators and Field Onboarding team while helping ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within scope, and within budget.
This is a head-office-based position with regular interaction with our field operations, fabrication shop, clients, suppliers, subcontractors, and union partners. Travel to customer offices and industrial sites will be required as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and support Field Project Coordinators in the successful execution of projects.
- Oversee and support the Field Project Onboarding team to ensure effective resource deployment.
- Support the safe execution of projects with a goal of zero safety incidents.
- Help ensure projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and according to scope.
- Review field estimates prior to submission to clients.
- Support project change management, including cost variations, deliverables, timelines, and change orders.
- Ensure appropriate personnel, equipment, and other resources are available and allocated to projects.
- Support the management of third-party vendors and review and approve contractor invoices.
- Monitor project performance and escalate concerns to management when required.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, vendors, subcontractors, and union halls.
- Provide mentorship, coaching, and career development to Project Coordinators and other departmental employees.
- Conduct internal audits of Project Coordinator and onboarding processes and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Support employee performance reviews, probationary reviews, training, and development.
- Assist with departmental budgeting and project cost control.
- Ensure compliance with Altex policies, procedures, quality requirements, safety requirements, and applicable legislation.
- Attend client meetings, project meetings, and pre-award meetings as required.
Qualifications & Experience
- Post-secondary education in a related engineering or management discipline with 6+ years of relevant experience; or
- Tradesperson with 10+ years of relevant experience and related career development credentials.
- Previous experience managing or coordinating projects within an industrial maintenance or manufacturing environment.
- Experience leading, mentoring, and developing employees.
- Working knowledge of relevant industry codes, including ASME, TEMA, and API.
- Strong understanding of project scheduling, cost control,
resource planning, and change management.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence.
Skills & Abilities The successful candidate will be a strong communicator and organized leader who is comfortable working in a fast-paced Field Services environment. You will have the ability to manage multiple priorities, solve problems, delegate effectively, work independently and collaboratively, and build strong relationships with employees and clients. Strong Microsoft Office skills are required, along with the ability to learn and work within Altex's project management and business systems.
Work Environment
This is primarily an Edmonton head-office-based position, with frequent exposure to a fabrication shop environment and periodic travel to customer offices and industrial field sites. A company cell phone is provided.
