About the Position

Tyam Excavation & Shoring Ltd. is seeking an experienced, hands-on Controller to lead our accounting and financial reporting function.

Reporting directly to senior management, the Controller will oversee the accounting department and be responsible for the accuracy and integrity of the company's financial information. This position will play an significant role in financial reporting, job costing, budgeting, cash-flow management, internal controls, and providing management with timely financial information to support business decisions.

The ideal candidate has strong accounting experience, preferably within the construction or contracting industry, and is comfortable both leading an accounting team and remaining involved in the financial details of the business.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead and oversee the day-to-day operations of the accounting department, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and payroll
- Manage, support and review the work of the accounting team
- Oversee monthly, quarterly and annual accounting close processes
- Prepare and review monthly financial statements and management reporting
- Maintain accurate and timely financial records and ensure the integrity of the general ledger
- Oversee construction job costing and project-based accounting
- Prepare and review Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting and analyze project profitability
- Monitor project revenues, costs, margins and cost-to-complete information
- Oversee progress billings, receivables, collections, subcontractor payments and applicable holdbacks




- Prepare and maintain cash-flow forecasts and monitor the company's working-capital requirements
- Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process
- Monitor company expenses, financial performance and key financial indicators
- Establish, maintain and improve internal financial controls, accounting policies and approval procedures
- Oversee bank, credit card and balance-sheet reconciliations
- Oversee payroll administration and related financial records
- Coordinate with external accountants and provide required information for year-end reporting and tax preparation
- Support banking, financing and insurance reporting requirements as needed
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting systems, processes, reporting and efficiencies
- Provide senior management with financial analysis and insight to support operational and strategic decision-making
- Maintain confidentiality of company, employee and financial information
- Perform other financial and accounting duties as required

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field
- CPA designation preferred
- Minimum 5–7 years of accounting experience, with experience in a senior accounting, Accounting Manager or Controller capacity
- Construction, excavation, civil contracting or other project-based accounting experience strongly preferred
- Demonstrated experience leading or supervising an accounting team




- Robust understanding of job costing, WIP reporting and project profitability
- Experience preparing monthly financial statements and management reports
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting and cash-flow management
- Strong understanding of Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and payroll processes
- Robust knowledge of accounting principles and internal financial controls
- Experience with Sage 50 or similar accounting software
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently, take ownership and work effectively with senior management and operational teams
