This is a union position subject to the terms and conditions in the collective agreement between the City and CUPE Local 556.The Utilities Technologist provides technical support and coordinates technical work related to developing, implementing, and optimizing the Utilities Division program(s). This position is involved in the day-to-day planning of preventive maintenance programs and the effective implementation of industry best practices related to utilities.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSCompletion of a two-year Diploma of Civil Engineering Technology.Occupational Certificates, Licenses, Association Memberships:Certified membership in the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of British Columbia as an Applied Sciences Technologist or as a Certified Technician.Current Environmental Operator Certification Program (EOCP) Water Distribution System Operator Level II certification (Preferred)Current certification as a Cross Connection Control Inspector from a recognized institution.Valid British Columbia Class 5 Driver's LicenseExperience:Sound (3 years)



experience in Operations and utilities environment with emphasis on utilities coordination, planned preventative maintenance and effective system(s) operations.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Considerable knowledge of AWWA standards, industry best practices and legislation related to Utilities system operations.Considerable knowledge of construction and maintenance practicesStrong interpersonal, communication, and report writing skillsStrong computer skills including MS Office, ArcGIS and databasesAbility to work well as a member of a team and independentlyAbility to oversee the work of othersAbility to interpret and apply City bylaws, policies, procedures, engineering design standards and specificationsAbility to read blueprints, construction drawings and schematicsADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS AFTER HIRINGFirst Aid Emergency Level - Industry and CPR Level A Certification; Traffic Control training; WHMIS Certification; and other job-related safety trainingEOCP and BCWWA membershipsThe current hourly wage rate is $44.45 based on a 35-hour work week (Schedule "A").
