Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Foundry Process Engineer to support and improve our metal casting manufacturing processes. The successful candidate will work closely with engineering, quality, pattern shop, molding, melting, heat treatment, and production teams to develop reliable casting processes and ensure castings meet customer and drawing requirements.

The ideal candidate should have practical experience in a foundry or metal casting environment, a good understanding of casting design and metallurgy, and the ability to develop and troubleshoot production processes from drawing review through final casting.

Previous foundry experience is strongly preferred.

Duties

- Review customer drawings, specifications, and technical requirements to determine appropriate casting manufacturing methods.
- Develop casting processes and prepare Process Data Sheets (PDS) for production.
- Design and optimize gating systems, risers, feeders, sleeves, chills, filters, and pouring arrangements based on casting geometry, alloy, section thickness, and solidification requirements.
- Determine suitable molding, melting, pouring, heat treatment, and finishing requirements for different casting grades and applications.
- Use Inventor, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar CAD software to review drawings and prepare casting, gating, tooling, and process layouts.
- Work directly with production teams during molding, pouring, shakeout, finishing, and inspection to ensure established casting processes are followed.
- Provide technical support to production when problems occur and assist with determining practical corrective actions.
- Troubleshoot casting defects such as shrinkage, porosity, cracking, inclusions, misruns, dimensional issues,



and other casting-related defects.
- Perform root-cause analysis on casting and production problems and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Support the development and modification of patterns, core boxes, gating systems, risers, chills, and other foundry tooling.
- Review casting simulation results when required and use the findings to improve gating, feeding, and solidification performance.
- Work closely with Quality and Production departments on dimensional inspections, non-conformances, customer requirements, and process improvements.
- Support new casting development from initial drawing review through trial production and final production release.
- Monitor existing casting processes and recommend improvements to increase yield, reduce scrap, improve quality, and increase production efficiency.
- Maintain and update process documentation, PDS sheets, drawings, work instructions, and manufacturing records.
- Assist production employees and supervisors with technical questions related to casting processes and manufacturing requirements.

Experience & Qualifications
- Experience working in a foundry, steel foundry, iron foundry, or metal casting manufacturing environment is strongly preferred.
- Previous experience in foundry process engineering, casting engineering, manufacturing engineering,



or a similar technical role is preferred.
- Valuable understanding of casting design, gating and risering principles, solidification, molding processes, melting, pouring, and heat treatment.
- Familiarity with ferrous alloys such as carbon steel, stainless steel, alloy steel, ductile iron, and/or high-alloy castings is an asset.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, customer specifications, dimensional requirements, and material specifications.
- Experience preparing or working with casting process sheets / Process Data Sheets (PDS) is an asset.
- Proficiency with Inventor, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar CAD software.
- Experience with casting simulation software is considered an asset.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to work directly with shop-floor production teams.
- Knowledge of quality systems, root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and continuous improvement practices is an asset.
- Diploma or degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field is preferred.

We are looking for someone who is comfortable working both in an engineering environment and directly on the foundry floor. The successful candidate should be able to take a casting from drawing review through process development and production while working closely with the manufacturing team to resolve problems and continuously improve casting quality. Pay: $60,000.00-$70,000.02 per year
