MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

We are seeking dedicated, student-centered General Educators to deliver various programs that promote the development of social problem-solving strategies and executive functioning skills, whilst also promoting self-esteem and self-advocacy in a supportive environment. In this role, you will work directly with students in-person, encouraging friendships and positive social/emotional behaviours.

Mandatory training will be provided.

COMPENSATION

Individuals with applicable designation (e.g., Ontario Certified Teacher, Registered Social Worker/Social Service Worker) receive $35.00 per hour.

Individuals without applicable designation receive $30.00 per hour.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Support the Program Manager in implementing and delivering academic and social well-being programs through weekly in-person sessions across the Hamilton and Halton regions.
- Uphold the mission, values, and standards of CDL while representing the organization in a professional manner.
- Create a positive, inclusive learning environment that encourages student engagement and relationship-building.




- Analyze assessment data to develop instructional scope and sequence plans and lesson plans that address student needs.
- Design and submit engaging weekly lesson plans and instructional materials that align with program objectives.
- Facilitate small-group sessions using organizational resources, incorporating ongoing informal assessment and data collection.
- Implement positive behaviour support strategies to manage group dynamics and maintain a safe, welcoming, and focused environment.
- Provide individualized behaviour redirection and emotional regulation support to students as needed.
- Review and prepare SEL curriculum materials, activities, and resources prior to each session.
- Maintain consistent communication with the Program Manager regarding instruction, student progress, evaluation, behavioural concerns, safety issues, and program needs.
- Incorporate Universal Design for Learning (UDL) practices to support learners with diverse strengths and needs.
- Communicate proactively and professionally with students and parents/guardians throughout the program.
- Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of all students and volunteers.
- Perform other duties as mutually agreed upon.

QUALIFICATIONS: Preferred candidates for the position include individuals:




- Prior experience working with children and/or youth with learning differences, specifically learning disabilities, ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder Level 1 and their families.
- Currently pursuing or completed a post-secondary degree/certification in Child & Youth Work, Social Work, Social Sciences, or similar field may be acceptable, depending on experience.
- Knowledge of a variety of play therapy models including directive methods and non-directive approaches is an asset.
- Previous experience providing behaviour support or managing group dynamics with a focus on social skill and/or executive functioning skill development is preferred.
- Experience working with Microsoft Suite is an asset but not required.
- Previous experience managing a group of people, such as volunteers, is an asset, but not required.
- Reliable transportation to and from the program sites in the Halton and Hamilton regions.
- Willing to obtain a Vulnerable Sector Check.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Flexible hours and in-person delivery of programs during evenings and weekend according to organizational demand.
- Have availability between Monday through Thursday for a minimum of two shifts a week between the hours of 3:00PM – 8:00PM

Pay: $30.00-$35.00 per hour Expected hours: 5.0 – 20.0 per week
