Housing Programs Coordinator
Location: Courtenay, BC, Comox Valley
Position Type: Full-time, 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Compensation: $35.00–$39.00 per hour, depending on experience
Reports to: Executive Director
Supervises: Homeless Prevention Worker
Start Date: Immediate or as negotiated

Position Summary The Housing Programs Coordinator is responsible for the administration, delivery, and oversight of Wachiay Friendship Centre’s housing programs, including the Canada–British Columbia Housing Benefit (CBCHB) and Reaching Home.
The Coordinator supports individuals and families experiencing housing instability by providing housing navigation, advocacy, financial assistance, and connections to community resources. The position provides leadership and supervision to the Homeless Prevention Worker, oversees program budgets and reporting requirements, and builds robust partnerships with landlords, service providers, funders, and community organizations.
The Coordinator ensures housing programs are delivered in accordance with funding agreements, program guidelines, and Wachiay policies while maintaining culturally safe, trauma-informed, and client-centred services.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer and oversee housing programs, including CBCHB and Reaching Home, in accordance with funding agreements, guidelines, and service standards.
- Support individuals and families experiencing housing instability through assessment, housing navigation, applications, advocacy, financial assistance, and follow-up.
- Oversee homelessness prevention, housing stability, shelter diversion, housing placement, and related support services.
- Coordinate housing supports, program transitions, and referrals to appropriate community resources and services.
- Ensure housing benefits and financial supports are provided accurately and in accordance with program eligibility and funding requirements.
- Manage program budgets, financial tracking, funder reporting, audits, and funding compliance requirements.
- Maintain accurate client and program records and ensure required information is entered into appropriate databases and reporting systems within established timelines.
- Prepare and submit required monthly, annual, financial, statistical, and outcome reports.
- Provide day-to-day supervision, coaching, guidance, and support to the Homeless Prevention Worker.
- Monitor workload, service delivery, and performance while fostering a collaborative, respectful, and culturally safe work environment.
- Build and maintain relationships with community partners, landlords, funders, housing providers, and social service agencies.
- Liaise with BC Housing, Lu’ma Native Housing Society, and other relevant housing partners.
- Participate in housing advocacy, community initiatives, and collaborative planning to strengthen housing supports.
- Maintain confidential client files and ensure compliance with privacy, funding, and organizational requirements.
- Support culturally appropriate, trauma-informed, and non-discriminatory service delivery.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of housing programs, homelessness, housing instability, and community support systems.
- Knowledge of BC Housing, Reaching Home, and CBCHB programs is an asset.
- Strong leadership, supervisory, and team-building skills.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, advocacy,
and relationship-building skills.
- Strong organizational, administrative, financial, and reporting skills.
- Ability to manage confidential information with discretion and accuracy.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals and families experiencing housing instability and other barriers.
- Understanding of cultural safety and trauma-informed practice.
- Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with clients, staff, community partners, funders, and service providers.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize competing demands, and exercise sound judgment.
Education, Experience, and Training Education: Post-secondary education in social services, Indigenous studies, non-profit management, or a related field is an asset. An equivalent combination of education, lived experience, and professional experience may be considered.
Experience: Minimum three years of experience working with vulnerable populations, housing programs, or community-based services.
Additional Experience: Experience supervising staff, managing program budgets, completing funder reporting, and administering funding agreements is an asset.
Training: Ongoing training and professional development as required.
Working Conditions
- Work includes office-based tasks, client support, community outreach, and engagement with external service providers.
- Requires regular interaction with individuals and families experiencing housing instability and other barriers.
- May require occasional community-based travel and flexible hours based on program needs.

Pay: $35.00-$39.00 per hour Expected hours: 35.0 per week
