The Whispering Pines / Clinton Indian Band (WPCIB) is one of the seventeen bands within the Secwepemc territory. Traditionally from the Clinton area, WPCIB membership includes ancestral lineage from both the Pelltíq’t te Pésellkwes (People of the White Earth/ Kelly Lake) and Steke’7ús (People of the Little Hanging Bridge (Big Bar)). As a Band we are committed to serving our community and membership as well as building a future that upholds our Ancestral responsibilities.

Reporting to the Social Programs Manager, the Housing Support Worker provides culturally grounded, member-centred support to WPCIB members living off-reserve who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, helping them find and keep safe, stable housing, connect to income, health, and cultural supports, and build strong working relationships with landlords across the Kamloops rental market.

Key Responsibilities

Housing and Tenancy Support:

- Complete intake and needs assessment with members seeking housing support, using the program’s Intake Form and Case Management Templates.
- Create individualized housing stability plans that identify immediate needs and a pathway to secure, sustainable housing.
- Support members through the rental application process: identifying units, preparing applications, and liaising with landlords and property managers.
- Assist members with tenancy issues, including lease review, notices to end tenancy, and referrals to the Residential Tenancy Branch when needed.
- Administer short-term rental assistance, damage deposits, and move-in costs within the eligibility framework’s tiers and approval thresholds.




- Assist members with ID acquisition or replacement where a missing ID is a barrier to securing housing.
- Provide eviction-prevention support, landlord mediation, and follow-up to sustain housing once it’s secured.
- Submit referrals to income, health, and cultural/community supports as needed.
- Maintain connection with members through regular check-ins, phone calls, and home visits.
- Foster a safe and inclusive space for all members, free of judgment about their housing circumstances.
- Keep accurate, activity-coded case notes and confidential case files for audit and FNHIC reporting purposes, as needed.

Community & Landlord Engagement:

- Build and maintain relationships of trust with landlords and property managers across the rental market.
- Participate in community check-ins, Elder engagement activities, and WPCIB events that support the program’s cultural safety commitments.
- Promote awareness of the program and connection to community for members navigating housing off-reserve.
- Coordinate with landlords on repairs, safety concerns, or disputes as they arise.
- Other duties as assigned/required.
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal), including with landlords, service providers, and members in crisis.
- Excellent relationship-building skills,



particularly with landlords and property managers.
- Proven ability to handle highly sensitive housing crises and provide trauma-informed, non-judgmental support.
- Critical thinking skills with a solution-focused approach to complex tenancy and eligibility situations.
- Resourcefulness and robust organizational skills to manage an active caseload.
- Energetic and empathetic advocate for members’ housing stability and dignity.
- Working knowledge of, or willingness to be trained in, the BC Residential Tenancy Act.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and professional conduct with sensitive case information.

Qualifications

Required

- Diploma or degree in social work, human services, community development, or a related field — or equivalent lived and professional experience.
- Experience working with Indigenous individuals and families, and a demonstrated understanding of the impacts of colonization, residential schools, and systemic barriers on housing insecurity.
- Experience working with First Nations or Indigenous organizations in a support, advocacy, and/or outreach role.
- Proficiency in using computers: Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.
- Valid BC driver’s licence (Class 5) and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Must pass a Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Check.

Preferred

- Degree in social work or health related field.
- Training in trauma-informed care.
- Knowledge of Secwepemc Nation history, culture, and values.
- Valid certification in First Aid/CPR (or willing to obtain).

Pay: From $31.48 per hour
