ABOUT CBIZ

CBIZ is a collaborative society of Calgary’s fifteen Business Improvement Areas whose mission is as follows:

- Supporting Calgary's BIAs through strong advocacy and funding.
- Support, advocate and provide resources to help BIAs flourish.
- A recognized, state of the art, strong non-profit business collective that supports local BIAs and their visions.

POSITION OVERVIEW CBIZ seeks a proactive, experienced Manager / Executive Director on a contract basis to lead coordination, strengthen governance and organizational capacity, support grant and program development, and help guide the association in Calgary. This is a hands-on, self-starting role requiring independent initiative and strong board-facing skills. Please note there are several short-term deliverables in the fall of 2026.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Advocacy

- Advance the association’s strategic goals to various levels of government.

Governance

- Develop, implement, and refine governance structures, policies, and best-practice procedures for CBIZ and support new BIA organizational setup where needed.
- Coordinate projects to advance BIA capacities (training, toolkits, shared services opportunities).
- Organize and facilitate Board meetings, prepare agendas and minutes, and support strategic planning.

Deliverable – Deadline December 1, 2026: Develop and implement the following written policies and practices, consistent with best practices:

- Conflict of interest.
- Whistleblower protection.
- Code of conduct.
- Financial administration.
- Cash management.
- Procurement.
- Risk management.
- Records.

Fund Development / Research

- Prepare funding proposals, manage grant applications, and ensure timely reporting and compliance for funded initiatives. Note: Including a major grant report due in December 2026.

Partnership Development

- Facilitate collaboration and information-sharing among the 15 BIAs.
- Build relationships with municipal partners and community stakeholders.

Office Management





- Provide leadership and day-to-day management of CBIZ activities under the direction of the CBIZ Board.
- Design and implement organizational processes (operational workflows, communications, membership services, performance tracking).
- Oversee financial administration in partnership with the Board or contracted bookkeeper (budget monitoring, basic financial reporting).

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

- Demonstrated knowledge of business improvement areas / non-profit governance and experience setting up or formalizing new organizations/associations.
- Proven self-starter who can work independently, prioritize tasks, and drive projects to completion with minimal supervision.
- Strong experience working with Boards (reporting, governance support, meeting facilitation).
- Track record of successful grant writing, funding acquisition, and grant/report compliance.
- Solid ability to develop and implement organizational processes and operational systems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; comfortable facilitating multi-stakeholder meetings.
- Strong relationship-building and stakeholder management skills.
- Familiarity with municipal processes, marketing or economic development is an asset.
- Post-secondary education in business administration, public administration, non-profit management, communications or related field preferred.
- Experience drafting or implementing non-profit governance policies

CONTRACT DETAILS

- Contract length: 6-month contract with possible extension.
- Estimated time commitment: 20 hours per week.
- Compensation: Competitive, commensurate with experience ($2800 – $ 3600 / month)
- Reporting: CBIZ Board and Chairperson.
- Hybrid: 50% remote, 50% office, negotiable
