About The Role Steel & Tube, New Zealand’s leading steel solutions provider with over 70 years of history, is looking for an Internal Account Manager based in the Waikato. Reporting to the Regional Manager – Upper North, this role sits at the heart of our busy trading environment and provides superior phone and web-based service, advice and support to a diverse range of customers.

You will process orders from incoming calls and emails, handle customer queries, complete order entry and provide administrative backup, while actively leveraging the full product range to maximise sales and margins. Working closely with the Regional Manager and sales teams, you will develop a deep understanding of key customers’ industries, challenges and long-term goals so you can identify new opportunities, resolve issues promptly and build lasting relationships.

This is a hands-on internal sales and customer service position that offers real ownership of account growth and day-to-day service excellence. Whether you bring solid experience in a similar trading or steel-related environment or strong customer service foundations with a genuine desire to develop in a fast-paced distribution setting, you will gain broad exposure while contributing directly to the success of our Upper North Island business and the wider One Company approach.

Key Responsibilities

- Deliver superior phone and web-based customer service, advice and order processing
- Support the sales team by understanding customer needs, identifying opportunities and actively pursuing new business
- Ensure customer tasks, including pricing, invoicing, traceability, and debtor management/support, are completed to business requirements




- Manage end-to-end a small portfolio of local customer accounts
- Complete CRM (HubSpot), Lost Sales Quote, Netstock forecasting, TOP 8 Sales Process and Insights requirements
- Cross-selling across the full range of products including: Stainless, Steel, Aluminium and Fastenings.
- Work with the sales and management teams to develop and implement growth strategies for products and markets
- Maintain accurate administration, order entry and, where required, take-off schedules from plans
- Support warehouse and tradeshop activities including serving customers, picking, packing and dispatch activities as needed
- Uphold health, safety, environment and continuous improvement standards across all activities

What You’ll Bring

- Excellent numerical, written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated sales and/or customer service experience with a track record of meeting sales and service goals (steel or similar industry preferred)
- Strong relationship-building, influencing and problem-solving ability
- Sound understanding of customers’ needs and the ability to translate complex product information clearly
- Current driver’s licence and current fork-hoist licence (or ability to obtain within 6 months)
- Organised, self-motivated and comfortable working with minimal supervision in a busy setting
- Desirable: experience reading plans and preparing take-offs, familiarity with JDE or similar systems, qualifications in customer service/sales/marketing, or related industry background
