About the Role

We are looking for a highly motivated Junior Software Developer who wants to build software that interacts with real-world hardware, laboratories, manufacturing systems, and scientific instruments.

This is not a traditional corporate software role.

You will work alongside scientists, engineers, and our technical leadership to rapidly build and deploy internal tools, automation software, data systems, hardware interfaces, and AI-enabled workflows.

We care less about how many years you have worked and more about how quickly you can learn, build, test, and solve problems.

This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career developer who wants significant responsibility and exposure to many different technologies.

What You'll Work On

Depending on your skills and interests, projects may include:

- Internal web applications and engineering tools
- Laboratory automation software
- Manufacturing and production software
- Hardware and instrument interfaces
- Automated testing systems
- Data collection and visualization
- APIs and backend services
- AI-assisted engineering workflows
- Computer vision applications

You may go from an idea to a working prototype within days rather than months.

What You'll Do

- Write, test, debug, and maintain software
- Build internal applications and automation tools
- Develop integrations between software, hardware, and laboratory equipment
- Work with APIs, databases, and data pipelines
- Use modern AI coding tools to accelerate development
- Turn engineering requirements into working software
- Test software against real hardware and systems
- Troubleshoot problems across software and hardware
- Document your work clearly




- Improve existing software and eliminate repetitive manual processes
- Work directly with engineers and scientists to understand their problems
- Take ownership of projects from concept through deployment

What We're Looking For You should have a degree or diploma in:
- Computer Science
- Software Engineering
- Computer Engineering
- Physics
- Mathematics
- Engineering
- Or another highly technical quantitative discipline

Recent graduates are encouraged to apply. You should have experience programming in at least one language such as:

Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, C++, C#, Java, or similar.

More important than a particular programming language is your ability to understand a problem and quickly figure out how to solve it.

We do not expect a junior candidate to know all of these. We are looking for someone who can learn them.

Our development philosophy is based on rapid iteration.

Understand the problem → build → test → deploy → improve.

AI has dramatically changed how quickly software can be developed. We expect our developers to embrace AI-assisted development and use these tools to increase their output rather than treating them as something separate from software engineering.

You will frequently work directly with the people using what you build, allowing you to see immediately whether your software actually solves the problem.

Compensation

$40,000–$45,000 per year, depending on experience.

Full-time, permanent, in office in Oakville, Ontario.
