DEFINITION:

Under the direction of the Maintenance and Utilities Working Foreman, the MaintenanceUtility Technician II coordinates and performs maintenance for all PR&C; facilities and other City facilities as needed and supports in developing and implementing preventative maintenance schedules and standards for all indoor and outdoor facilities.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

1. Inspect and maintain mechanical equipment daily for proper operation, including building heating, cooling and de-humidification requirements, electrical systems, water filtration and pool mechanical, etc;
2. Prepare and maintain daily operational records and reports;
3. Perform other duties relating to the operations of the Parks RecreationCulture Department including, but not limited to snow removal, drainage system repairs and maintenance, ice maintenance, and irrigation;
4. Assist in training and orientating staff as required;
5. Perform Maintenance and burial services at the cemeteries;
6. Maintenance of all parks, trails, pathways and campgrounds;
7. Perform painting, carpentry and electrical work etc.;
8. Assist in reading and interpreting blueprints and drawings and apply relevant Codes;
9. Oversee the management, safety and filling of pool chemical storage containers;
10. Oversee and conduct chemical testing and adjustments of water temperatures as needed;
11. Plan and implement annual shutdown activities at the TDAC related to facility mechanical systems and equipment;
12. Operate and maintain tools related to the work;
13. Emergency call outs, standby, and shift work may be required;
14. Other duties, as required.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

1. Secondary school graduation;
2. Three years' Technical School;
3. Ability to work independently and to accomplish tasks and assignments;
4.



Good written and oral communication skills;
5. Demonstrated ability to operate related equipment;
6. A good understanding of municipal infrastructure;
7. Positive physical condition and able to perform heavy manual labour;
8. Mechanical aptitude and ability to make repairs to related equipment;
9. Ability to interpret and apply requirements set forth in the various permits issued by Work Safe BC, Technical Safety BC, Ministry of Health and Ministry of Environment;
10. Good working knowledge of chemicals handled on the job;
11. Attention to detail and accuracy in recording data and maintaining records;
12. First Aid training;
13. Ability to operate hand and power tools related to the trade;
14. Ability to deal effectively with co-workers, contractors and the public;
15. Minimum of five years' related experience;
16. Knowledge with plumbing, mechanical systems, basic carpentry, lock-out procedures, pumps, motors, furnace, and chlorine repairs and servicing;
17. Refrigeration Safety Awareness or willingness to obtain;
18. Knowledge of BC Plumbing code, Building Code and other relevant legislation;
19. Pool Operator Certification Level 1 and 2, or willingness to obtain;
20. WHIMIS Certification or willingness to obtain;
21. Transportation of Dangerous Goods Certification or willingness to obtain;
22. Valid Class 5 B.C. Driver's Licence.
