Litigation Legal Assistant (Employment and Labour)This is a great opportunity for a Litigation Legal Assistant who enjoys being busy, likes working with a solid team, and wants to be part of a firm that has a solid name in the Toronto legal market. Supporting an Employment & Labour group, the role is ideal for someone with at least 3 years of experience who can keep things organized, stay on top of deadlines, and confidently manage the day-to-day flow of a litigation practice. The firm has a professional but down-to-earth vibe, people are genuinely friendly, and the 4 days in office setup creates a collaborative environment where you actually feel connected.Salary: Up to $80K (Based on Experience)Key ResponsibilitiesAssist with the preparation and/or assembly of litigation, tribunal and court documents including electronic filingsAssist with the preparation and/or assembly of information response filings for administrative audits and investigationsPrepare protected and public versions of confidential documents for tribunal filings, including redactions of confidential informationConvert documents in Microsoft Word and Excel into AdobeCoordinate with process servers regarding service and filing of court materialsCoordinate with tribunal and court offices regarding hearing and motions bookings and related court material filingsDraft and revise correspondence and other documents according to precedents and/or instructions including memos, letters, emails, reports, presentations, court forms and court documentsApply proofreading and editing skills to all work products ensuring accuracy and completeness while checking for appropriate formatting,
spelling and grammarAct as a liaison between the lawyers and various internal and external individuals on file progression and other itemsAssist in the administrative management of the lawyers' and other legal professionals practices including opening & closing files, arranging meetings, scheduling, arranging travel and/or other accommodationsOrganize and maintain an up-to-date (electronic and/or paper) file system of client filesProvide administrative support with docket entries, the coordination of billings, processing expenses and payment of invoices following to the firm's accounting policies and standardsWork collaboratively and provide backup and overflow assistance to other lawyers, law clerks and legal assistants with heavy workloads and in the absence of others, when neededExercise judgment, be resourceful and work independently to solve administrative issuesQualificationsMinimum of 3 years' experience as a legal assistant in litigationPost-Secondary education in legal administration or equivalentProficiency in the MS Office environment, Adobe Pro, Excel and other legal-specific technologiesExperience with and knowledge of the Canadian International Trade Tribunal, Federal Courts, the Rules of Civil Procedure, and court practices and procedures are considered assetsUnderstanding of metadata preferredExperience with Aderant (or other legal-specific billing technology) and an understanding of a billing lifecycle, processing expenses and payment of invoices are considered assetsExcellent organizational skills, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple tasksImpeccable proofreading, grammar skills and attention to detailMaintains professionalism, confidentiality and operates with discretionTagged as: Bennett Jones LLP
