Summary of the role

We’re looking for a dedicated, organized, and compassionate Medical Secretary to join us in our mission to be the primary care provider of choice in the Sudbury area.

The Medical Secretary is an significant member of our interdisciplinary team providing administrative and reception support to help ensure patients receive timely, organized and compassionate care. This position involves frequent interaction with patients, healthcare providers, community partners and other members of the clinic team.

Employment Type: Full-time Permanent

Hourly Rate: $25.56

Expected Hours: 35 per week

Role description

- Patient reception and communication: Greet patients, answer and direct telephone calls, respond to inquiries, and provide professional, compassionate service to patients and visitors.
- Appointment and referral coordination: Schedule appointments and follow-ups, coordinate referrals, communicate booking changes, and support the timely flow of patient care.
- Electronic medical record management: Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including demographics, incoming reports, consultation notes, referrals and other clinical documentation.
- Administrative support to the clinical team: Provide day-to-day clerical support to interdisciplinary healthcare providers, including follow-up calls, records requests, and correspondence.
- Information management and confidentiality: Receive, process and appropriately direct clinical information,



ensuring urgent items are identified and patient information is handled in accordance with privacy legislation, organizational policies and established procedures.
- Clinic and team support: Work collaboratively with clinical and administrative colleagues to maintain efficient clinic operations, including coverage for colleagues, monitoring supplies, supporting examination rooms and adapting to changing priorities and clinic needs.

Key Qualifications/competencies

- Graduation from a medical office administration program or commensurate experience.
- Strong administrative skills and excellent interpersonal judgement.
- Experience with an Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system. Experience using Accuro will be considered a strong asset.
- Ability to travel between the three SDNPC clinic sites and throughout the Sudbury & District.
- Vulnerable sector check is required for this position and will be requested by the hiring manager should you be the candidate of choice.

Who is the SDNPC and What is a Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic (NPLC)? Nurse Practitioner Led clinics are an innovative model for delivery of comprehensive primary health care in Ontario and Canada. One of the unique aspects of the model is the incorporation of nursing leadership within an interprofessional team.

The SDNPC is Canada’s first NP led clinic, having opened in 2007. We have since grown to three clinics across the Sudbury area, with two clinics in the downtown core and one in Lively.

We are a non-profit organization dedicated to providing exemplary primary health care services to the residents of the Sudbury District.
