mistral Site Services (MSS) is rapidly growing to service the numerous projects under development from within the mistral Group with projects ranging from site servicing, deep excavation, excavation, and backfill to landscaping all done within MSS.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Heavy Civil Manager, the Heavy Civil Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of heavy equipment to support earthworks, excavation, grading, and infrastructure construction projects. The Operator ensures that all equipment operations are performed in accordance with project specifications, safety standards, and quality requirements while contributing to overall site productivity and efficiency across heavy civil projects.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Equipment Operation and Site Execution

- Operate excavators and other heavy civil equipment to complete excavation, grading, trenching, and earthworks.
- Perform excavation for trenches, foundations, utilities, and roadworks in accordance with drawings and specifications.
- Support site development activities, including backfilling, rough and fine grading, and material handling.
- Work collaboratively with crews to ensure productive workflow and timely task completion.
- Perform routine equipment inspections, fueling, and basic preventative maintenance.
- Report mechanical issues, deficiencies,



and maintenance needs promptly.
- Maintain accurate equipment logs, usage records, and inspection documentation.
- Ensure equipment is operated responsibly to minimize wear, damage, and downtime.

2. Safety and Compliance

- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and OH&S; regulations at all times.
- Conduct pre-operation inspections and complete daily equipment safety checks.
- Identify and report hazards, unsafe conditions, or equipment concerns to the Site Supervisor.
- Promote and maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment on site.

3. Team Coordination and Site Support

- Coordinate with site supervisors, surveyors, and ground crews to ensure alignment with project plans.
- Assist with loading, unloading, and movement of materials and equipment as required.
- Support site setup, cleanup, and general labour tasks when equipment operation is not required.
- Communicate effectively with team members to maintain productivity and site efficiency.

4. Other

- Works in a safe manner and ensures department operations are carried out in a safe manner in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, associated regulations, Mistral Group of Companies’ policies, procedures, and other associated legislation.
- Other related duties, as assigned.

The successful candidate will possess the following:

Education

- Secondary school diploma.

License, Registration and Training

- Valid and unrestricted Class “G” driver’s license with “DZ” endorsement and access to reliable transportation and the ability to travel to various work locations.
- Current WHMIS and First Aid/CPR certification and other relevant safety training.

Experience

- Three (3) to five (5) years of experience operating heavy equipment in heavy civil or construction environment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

- Strong knowledge of heavy civil equipment operation, excavation methods, and site safety practices.
- Proven skill in operating excavators and other heavy machinery with precision and efficiency.




- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, grades, and specifications.
- Strong awareness of safety regulations and ability to maintain safe operating practices at all times.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills in a fast-paced construction environment.
- Strong problem-solving ability to adapt to changing site conditions and operational needs.
- High level of reliability, accountability, and attention to detail in equipment operation and reporting.
- Physical stamina and ability to work in demanding outdoor and heavy civil construction settings.
