SOOYO CAFÉ is a small, independently owned neighbourhood café in Vancouver.

We are looking for an experienced, reliable and highly motivated Café Manager / Lead Barista with strong coffee-making skills and previous kitchen experience.

As a small café, we need someone who can confidently handle multiple responsibilities, maintain high service standards and keep daily operations running smoothly.

This is a hands-on position that requires much more than simply making coffee. The successful candidate must be capable of preparing café food, managing busy service periods, monitoring daily operations and working independently with minimal supervision.

We are looking for someone who takes ownership of their work, communicates proactively and genuinely cares about the quality of the food, drinks and service we provide.

Key Responsibilities

Coffee & Food Preparation

● Prepare high-quality espresso-based beverages and consistently execute latte art.

● Prepare sandwiches and other café menu items according to established recipes and presentation standards.

● Manage coffee and food orders efficiently while maintaining speed, accuracy and consistency.

● Maintain high standards of food safety, cleanliness and organization throughout each shift.

Daily Café Operations

● Independently manage day-to-day café operations during assigned shifts.

● Monitor the café environment, customer needs, workflow and overall service quality.

● Remain organized and efficient during busy service periods without compromising food or beverage quality.

● Identify operational problems, take appropriate corrective action and promptly report important issues to the owner.

● Respond calmly and effectively to unexpected situations, customer concerns and operational emergencies.

● Complete assigned daily tasks accurately, independently and within the expected timeframe.

● Follow established operating procedures and maintain consistent standards across all areas of the café.

Communication & Accountability

● Communicate clearly and promptly with the owner regarding operational issues, unfinished tasks, customer concerns or situations requiring additional support.

● Take responsibility for assigned duties and follow through on commitments.

● Proactively identify problems and suggest practical solutions.

● Accept constructive feedback, participate in training and continuously improve work performance.

● Maintain reliable attendance, punctuality and consistent professional standards.

Required Qualifications

All applicants must meet the following requirements:

1. Barista Experience





A minimum of 3 years of professional barista experience is required. Applicants must be proficient in espresso preparation, milk steaming and latte art.
1. Kitchen Experience

Previous experience in a qualified kitchen or café food preparation environment is required. Applicants must be comfortable preparing sandwiches and other café food while managing multiple orders efficiently.
1. FOODSAFE Certification — Mandatory

A valid BC FOODSAFE Level 1 certificate or recognized equivalent is required. All shortlisted applicants must bring their certificate or valid proof of certification to the in-person interview for verification.
1. Ability to Work Independently

The successful candidate must be able to manage assigned responsibilities with minimal supervision, follow instructions accurately and complete daily tasks without constant reminders.
1. Strong Multitasking & Stress Management

Applicants must be able to remain calm, organized and efficient during busy periods. The ability to prioritize tasks, maintain service quality and respond appropriately to unexpected situations is essential.
1. Reliability & Accountability

We require someone who is consistently punctual, dependable, responsible and committed to their scheduled shifts. Strong attention to detail, good organizational skills and the ability to follow through on assigned tasks are essential.
1. Communication & Problem-Solving

Applicants must be able to communicate effectively, recognize problems early, take appropriate corrective action and promptly report important issues to the owner.
1. Willingness to Learn

We value candidates who are motivated to improve, open to constructive feedback and willing to learn new skills and follow our established operating procedures.
1. Weekend Availability

Reliable availability on both Saturday and Sunday is mandatory. Applicants must also be available for the complete regular work schedule listed below.

Work Schedule

Monday: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Friday: 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM

Saturday: 9:30 AM – 5:00 PM

Sunday: 9:30 AM – 5:00 PM

Total: 4 days per week, 26 scheduled hours, including applicable meal breaks.

Consistent availability for all four scheduled days is required.

This position requires a strong sense of ownership and the ability to work independently while following the owner’s operational standards and directions.

We also expect all assigned tasks to be completed accurately and efficiently within scheduled working hours whenever reasonably possible.

Compensation

$21.00–$25.00 per hour.

The final hourly rate will be determined based on relevant experience, professional skills and demonstrated ability to independently manage daily café operations.
