Job Summary

Alberta Film School is hiring for two separate instructional roles at our Edmonton campus:

- Photography Instructor
- Videography Instructor

These positions are included in one job posting, but applicants are not required to teach both subjects. You may apply for the Photography Instructor position, the Videography Instructor position, or both if you have professional experience in both fields. We are looking for experienced creative professionals who can explain, demonstrate, and teach practical skills clearly to beginners. Our programs are highly hands-on, with students learning through classroom demonstrations, studio exercises, assignments, and real-world creative projects.

Full-time and part-time opportunities are available for both day and evening classes. Monthly compensation will depend on the selected schedule and total paid hours.

Available Schedules

Full-Time Day Position

- Monday to Friday
- 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Full-Time Day and Evening Position

- Monday to Friday
- 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM

Part time Evening Position

- Monday to Friday
- 4:30 PM to 9:30 PM

Applicants must indicate their preferred schedule when applying. Photography Instructor The Photography Instructor will teach beginner and developing photographers through practical classroom and studio training.

Topics may include

- DSLR and mirrorless camera operation
- Shutter speed, aperture, ISO, and exposure
- Composition and creative camera techniques
- Lenses and photography equipment
- Natural and continuous lighting
- Flash and studio lighting
- Portrait, product, event, and studio photography
- Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop
- Photo selection, editing, retouching, and delivery
- Portfolio development
- Basic photography business, branding, and client skills

Photography Instructor Qualifications

- Professional photography experience
- Strong understanding of cameras, lenses, exposure, and composition
- Experience with natural, continuous, flash, and studio lighting
- Strong Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop skills
- A professional photography portfolio
- Previous teaching, training, or mentorship experience is an asset

Videography Instructor The Videography Instructor will teach beginner and developing videographers through practical classroom, studio, and production exercises.

Topics may include:

- DSLR and mirrorless camera operation




- Shutter speed, aperture, ISO, and exposure
- Frame rates, shutter angle, white balance, and focus
- Composition, camera movement, and visual storytelling
- Lenses and video production equipment
- Natural and artificial video lighting
- Interview and multi-camera setups
- Microphones, audio recording, and monitoring
- Gimbals, tripods, and handheld camera techniques
- Adobe Premiere Pro or comparable editing software
- Short-form content and practical video production
- Portfolio development
- Basic videography business, branding, and client skills

Videography Instructor Qualifications

- Professional videography or filmmaking experience
- Strong understanding of cameras, lenses, exposure, composition, and frame rates
- Experience with continuous lighting and practical video lighting
- Knowledge of microphones and audio recording
- Strong Adobe Premiere Pro skills or comparable professional editing experience
- A professional videography portfolio or demo reel
- Previous teaching, training, or mentorship experience is an asset

Instructor Responsibilities Depending on the position, instructors will be responsible for:

- Preparing and reviewing lessons before class
- Following Alberta Film School’s established curriculum and instructor procedures
- Teaching concepts in a clear, simple, and engaging way
- Demonstrating techniques through practical examples
- Leading hands-on classroom, studio, and production activities
- Monitoring students and providing individual guidance
- Reviewing student photography, video, or editing work
- Providing clear and constructive feedback
- Identifying and supporting students who may be struggling
- Tracking student participation, progress, and completed assignments
- Communicating student progress or concerns to school management
- Maintaining an organized, safe, and professional learning environment
- Helping students develop practical, real-world creative skills

Portfolio Required A working professional portfolio link is mandatory. Photography applicants must submit a portfolio demonstrating relevant photography work.

Videography applicants must submit a video portfolio, website, or demo reel demonstrating relevant videography work.

Applicants applying for both roles must provide examples of both photography and videography work.
