As Vegetable & Ornamental Grower, you will play a vital role in managing, organizing, directing and controlling the activities of greenhouse growing. Your crop responsibilities will account for long-term ornamental production, as well as seasonal vegetable and herb offerings. You will work with the growing department to assess crop quality and ensure healthy and pest free ornamentals, vegetables, and herbs. You will implement preventative measures to ensure plants are pest and disease free and have optimal conditions to thrive and grow.Duties and Responsibilities:Ensure plants are provided with proper nutrients and waterMonitor the greenhouse environment, making adjustments as neededMonitor crop quality and waste to determine opportunities for improvementMonitor for pests and diseaseAssist with spraying and the I.P.M. ProgramMaintain records of crop, shrink reports and spray recordsMaintain daily communication with the department to coordinate daily activities and to ensure continuous improvementIdentify systemic problems and suggest solutions for remediationWork within the parameters of CFIA regulationsAttendance of weekly meetings with growing teamWork within safety guidelines established by Freeman Herbs and identify areas of safety concernKeep a clean and tidy work environmentQualifications:Education:Highschool diplomaHorticulture diploma or degree requiredExperience:Minimum 2 years of demonstrated leadership experience in a greenhouse/horticultural settingSkills:Working knowledge of greenhouse management systemsSelf-motivated, demonstrated leadership skills'Ability to work autonomously with little guidanceAbility to coordinate amongst multiple teams and stakeholdersWilling to be on call, work weekends when neededWorking knowledge of Microsoft suite of products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)Valid spray/pesticide licenseWorking knowledge of Spanish is considered an assetThis job posting is for an existing vacancy at Freeman Herbs.
