The Program – ExCel Discovery The Enviros ExCel Discovery Program is a group living open-custody facility for males and females 12 – 19 years old youth serving an Open Custody Sentence under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, while collaboratively working with the Young Offender Centers. ExCel Discovery works with youth to provide them opportunities to manage addictions, mental health, and social issues.

The goal of ExCel Discovery staff is to promote a healthy re-integration into community by fostering life skills, attending education, and promoting healthy relationships.

Position Overview

This position will be based at ExCel Discovery and will include direct involvement and support of the program, staff team, youth, and community partners. This position will be part of the Enviros leadership team and will ensure that day-to-day operations follow program protocols and Enviros policy.

Responsibilities

- Supervise a team of staff members up to 12 individuals
- Consultation and reporting to the Custody Operations Branch
- Collaborating with the Calgary and Edmonton Young Offenders Center




- Ensure all Accreditation standards are upkept and met
- Completion and overseeing of documentation and case management
- Complete scheduling to ensure program is properly staffed
- Active member of the leadership team
- Oversee and approve staff timesheets, and time-off
- Supports group care on-call on a rotational basis
- Attend all leadership meetings
- Conduct staff meetings
- Along with the program manager, ensure that the budget is reviewed and adhered to
- Provide regular supervision of staff members
- Provide support when needed to clients
- Recruitment, staff performance evaluations and staff training as required by CAC guidelines and ensure all staff training are current
- Oversee household health and safety standards and overall housekeeping duties Competencies
- Strong communication skills
- Subject matter expert on child and youth care programs
- Detail oriented with strong organizational skills
- Supportive leader that encourages ongoing staff development
- Able to adapt to changing situations

- Able to provide effective feedback and supervision to staff

Education And Experience

- Post-secondary education in a Human Services related field
- Experience and demonstrated skills in supervising staff
- Experience working with youth affected by trauma
- Experience/ Knowledge of the Youth Criminal Justice Act is considered an asset

Other Qualifications

- Current Standard First Aid and CPR C
- Current Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sectors Designation (within 6 months)
- Current Intervention Record Check (within 6 months
- A clean driver’s abstract containing not more than two (2) minor offences or one (1) major offence.




- Valid Class 5 driver’s license (Class 5 GDL will not be accepted) with a clear driving record.

Both checks must be completed prior to the employee’s start date. Please note that this process can take up to six (6) weeks to complete. Enviros will accept IRCs and Criminal Record Checks with VSC that are no more than six (6) months old at the time of hire.
