As a faith- and values-based organization, we hire and serve people of all backgrounds and walks of life - there is a place for everyone to belong here.Mission StatementThe Salvation Army exists to share the love of Jesus Christ, meet human needs and be a transforming influence in the communities of our world.Job DescriptionJOB PURPOSE:The Shelter Support Line Prevention and Diversion Worker (SSL) /Residential Worker provides general information, books shelter beds, and provides confidential shelter options for those that have lost housing and individuals or families who are at imminent risk of becoming homeless.Characteristic Job DutiesAnswer the SSL phone and complete callbacksImplements diversion strategies to prevent homelessnessAccurately fill out intake formsLiaises with referral sources and other external agencies as needed (e.G., child protection services, police, community organizations)Regularly communicates with emergency shelters (daily), housing navigator, landlords, and service providersComplete daily and monthly spreadsheets and reportsMake appropriate referralsLiaison with hotel/motelsMonitors the activities of the clients/residents and maintains availability for personal,



practical and morale support; may include providing safe storage and recording of prescribed medicationsAccurately records day-to-day happenings using appropriate methods; maintains logbooks and completes occurrence reportsCoordinates client care relating to security issues; doing bed checksMay carry out inspection/security checks of property and grounds in accordance with policies and proceduresHandles the admission, orientation and evaluation of clients' understanding of rules; ensures ongoing enforcement of policies, which may include client disciplineMay serve as Receptionist for ShelterMay prepare or provide easy meals for clients/residentsProvide follow up and supports to clients accessing SSL options and resourcesMaintain office equipmentOngoing training and continuous learningPerforms other duties as assignedMinimum Education Level AttainedThe successful job applicant will have completed high school, plus specialized courses of up to six (6) months (Addictions Facilities).NOTE: An alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable.Special Licenses, Diplomas, Certifications Or RequirementsKnowledge of Microsoft Office 365 and be comfortable working with, and developing, Spreadsheets using ExcelBe familiar with housing supports on PEIBe knowledgeable of the regions, counties, and rural areas of PEISee Precautionary MeasuresMinimum Prior Related ExperienceThe incumbent must have the following experience before hire:More than three months but less than one year of prior related experience, including,



experience with frontline work in a social service setting.Physical Effort/Dexterity RequiredThe performance of the job requires moderate amounts of keyboarding and performing walk abouts.Concentration RequiredThe performance of the job requires continuously monitoring the environment, monitoring security cameras and attentiveness when interacting with clients and recording information.Responsibility For Financial ResourcesThe incumbent is involved in minor financial matters regularly, or on a relief basis, or has responsibility for the wise use of his/her own resources. He/She may be authorized to spend, disburse, or collect small amounts of cash. The incumbent has very little input into the annual budget.Responsibility For Human ResourcesThe incumbent is responsible for his/her own time and effort only.
