Rooted in community, respect, and Indigenous values, our work helps build a strong, thriving Indigenous community.The OpportunityThe incumbent will be responsible for delivering individualized literacy programming to adult learners. This position will assist in the development of Indigenous adult-appropriate learning materials creating innovative learning opportunities, specifically developing and carrying out lessons for stage 1 learners, working one on one with beginning learners. The incumbent will promote the program while supporting the goals and objectives of the Negeenan Learning and Literacy Centre, the Negeenan Education, Training and Employment Services, and the Indigenous community.Key ResponsibilitiesPrepare subject material for presentation to students who need an individual/specific learning planWork collaboratively with staff members to deliver lesson plans to level 1 studentsPrepare and implement remedial programs for Level 1 studentsDeliver lesson plans/activities using a systematic plan of lectures, discussions, audio-visual presentations, and laboratory, and field studiesAssign and correct homeworkPrepare, administer and correct testsDetermine with individual students, their learning needs, plans,



goals and objectivesEvaluate and assess student progress and discuss results with students and school officialsParticipate in staff meetings, educational conferences and instructor training workshopsParticipate in the planning and coordination of school events and activitiesQualificationsRelevant post-secondary education (degree or diploma); an acceptable combination of education and experience may also be consideredDemonstrated expertise in the field of instruction, specifically with literacy learners, is an asset. Additional courses in teaching or a provincial literacy training may be requiredExperience and SkillsSuperior skills in team leadership, verbal and written communication, time management, critical thinking, decision making, and organizational managementProficient in Microsoft Office applications, internet use, and web-related technologiesProfessional work ethic and the ability to exercise good judgment when dealing with challenging situationsKnowledge and understanding of Winnipeg's urban Indigenous communityAdditional RequirementsNETES requires a explicit and satisfactory Criminal Record Check prior to the start of employment.
