Research Setting: Saskatchewan Population Health and Evaluation Research Unit (SPHERU), University of Regina

Position Summary

Applications are invited for two Master’s-level Research Assistant positions on an SSHRC-funded qualitative research project examining legislative, governmental, policy, and political discourses related to compassionate care of substance use related issues.

The Research Assistants will work with the Principal Investigator and research team on document collection and management, qualitative coding and analysis, and knowledge mobilization. Training will be provided in specialized government and policy-document searching, NVivo, and the Discourse-Historical Approach (DHA).

Responsibilities The Research Assistants will:

- conduct systematic searches for legislative, governmental, policy, political, and related documents;
- organize, catalogue, and maintain the project’s document corpus and search records;
- assist with research ethics documentation and research data management;
- organize and code qualitative data using NVivo;
- participate in development and application of the project’s qualitative coding framework;
- contribute to qualitative and discourse analysis;
- prepare analytic notes, summaries, tables, and research documentation;
- participate in research-team meetings and interpretation of findings; and
- assist with conference presentations, policy briefs, reports, manuscripts, and other knowledge-mobilization activities.

Position Requirements

Qualifications

Applicants should

- be enrolled in, or have recently completed, a master’s degree in social work, sociology, public policy, political science, population health, health policy, Indigenous studies, gender studies, education, or a related social-science discipline;
- have knowledge of qualitative research methods;




- demonstrate strong academic reading, analytical, and writing skills;
- have excellent organizational skills and attention to detail; and be able to work independently and collaboratively.

Experience with NVivo, qualitative coding, policy or government-document research, research ethics, or discourse analysis is an asset but is not required.
