About ROAR

ROAR—Reducing Overdose, Abbotsford Response—is Abbotsford’s Community Action Team. It brings together people with lived and living experience, families, Indigenous community members, service providers, health partners, and other stakeholders to respond to the toxic drug poisoning crisis.

ROAR supports collaborative community action, identifies service gaps, strengthens partnerships, and advances harm reduction, public education, and stigma reduction. Meaningful participation and shared decision-making with people directly affected by the crisis are central to this work.

About the position

This full-time position combines coordination of ROAR with delivery of Impact’s Indigenous Gambling Harm Prevention and Wellness Project.

The coordinator will support the ROAR Collaborative Table, Steering Committee, working groups, and community initiatives. They will help turn shared priorities into practical action, maintain relationships, coordinate education and events, and support project planning, budgets, evaluation, and reporting.

The Indigenous gambling harm reduction component adds dedicated capacity for culturally grounded education, awareness, community consultation, referral navigation, and cultural connection. It supports Indigenous people of all ages, including youth, adults, Elders, families, and caregivers, and includes building relationships and working collaboratively with local Indigenous Nations, Indigenous organizations, and urban Indigenous communities.

This work recognizes the connections between gambling-related harms, grief, trauma, substance use, financial stress, social isolation, and systemic barriers. The coordinator will provide education and help people connect with appropriate supports.

Primary responsibilities

ROAR coordination and collaborative governance

- Coordinate ROAR initiatives in line with the priorities of the Collaborative Table and Steering Committee.
- Organize monthly table meetings, Steering Committee meetings, and working groups, working to prepare agendas, facilitate discussions, distribute minutes, and follow up on decisions.
- Maintain work plans, timelines, action records, and regular communication with members.
- Prepare and present monthly updates on activities, emerging needs, project progress, and spending.
- Support collaborative decision-making, respectful dialogue, and constructive responses to differing perspectives.
- Work with the Executive Director or designate to ensure activities align with organizational policies, approved budgets, and funding commitments.

Peer engagement and community partnerships

- Build and maintain relationships with people with lived and living experience, families, Indigenous communities, service providers, and other partners.
- Create accessible opportunities for people directly affected by substance use and toxic drug poisoning to shape priorities and participate in decisions.
- Support peer leadership and coordinate with peer workers and peer-led initiatives.




- Welcome new partners and identify gaps in services, participation, and community response.
- Support participation arrangements, including approved peer honoraria and practical access needs.
- Work alongside Abbotsford Drug War Survivors, VYPER, Impact’s counselling programs, and other community initiatives.

Community education and awareness

- Coordinate public education, outreach, events, and campaigns addressing toxic drug poisoning, harm reduction, and stigma.
- Develop and distribute accessible print, digital, and social media materials.
- Organize information tables and community engagement activities at resource fairs, cultural gatherings, schools, and public events.
- Support community understanding of available services and opportunities for collective action.

Indigenous gambling harm prevention and wellness

- Coordinate the grant work plan, including community consultation, education sessions, awareness activities, resource development, and referral pathways.
- Engage Indigenous people of all ages, families, Elders, cultural leaders, local Indigenous Nations, urban Indigenous community members, and partner organizations in shaping project delivery.
- Build and maintain relationships with local Indigenous Nations to support community priorities, culturally grounded education, and connections to appropriate services and cultural supports.
- Deliver culturally relevant education about gambling harms, online betting, gambling-like features in gaming, and connections with grief, trauma, substance use, mental health, and financial stress.
- Plan approximately 12–16 education sessions per project year and approximately 8–12 public education tables, consistent with the approved work plan.
- Create or adapt accessible handouts, workshop materials, visual tools, and storytelling or digital resources for different ages and audiences.
- Strengthen relationships with schools, Indigenous agencies, gambling harm prevention partners, and community organizations.
- Connect participants with appropriate gambling supports, counselling, peer support, and other wellness resources.
- Develop referral pathways to Impact’s Youth Substance Use Counselling team for youth under 25 and grief counselling for youth under 30, according to program eligibility and participant needs; connect adults with appropriate services.
- Support access to cultural activities and land-based opportunities under the guidance of Elders, cultural leaders, and community partners.

Administration, evaluation, and reporting

- Track activities, participation, resources distributed, partnerships, referrals, and participant feedback while protecting confidentiality.
- Support evaluation of community engagement, increased awareness, cultural connection, and access to services.
- Prepare funder reports and contribute to funding applications and sustainability planning.




- Monitor approved project budgets and maintain accurate records of expenses, honoraria, and reimbursements with Impact’s administrative team.
- Coordinate shared activities across programs while maintaining clear records for each funding stream.

Qualifications and experience

- Valid Class 5 license, and reliable vehicle
- Criminal records check and vulnerable sector search
- Experience in community development, project coordination, outreach, public education, or related work.
- Experience working respectfully with people with lived and living experience and supporting meaningful participation in decisions.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities, organizations, youth, or families, with a commitment to cultural safety and humility.
- Understanding of harm reduction, toxic drug poisoning prevention, stigma reduction, and trauma-informed practice.
- Knowledge of gambling-related harms, or a demonstrated ability to build this knowledge and deliver relevant education.
- Strong meeting facilitation, relationship-building, public speaking, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to manage work plans, coordinate events, track budgets, and prepare clear reports.
- Confidence using communication technology, social media, and common office tools.
- Knowledge of Abbotsford community resources and referral pathways is an asset.
- Knowledge and practical skills in overdose response, including naloxone administration.

Compensation and benefits

$28.00–$30.00 per hour, depending on skills and experience, for 37.5 hours per week.

Work environment The role includes meetings, outreach, education, and community activities in Abbotsford and surrounding areas. Scheduling will need to accommodate community participation, including some evening and weekend activities.

The coordinator works under the supervision of the Executive Director or designate and remains accountable to the ROAR Collaborative Table and Steering Committee for ROAR’s shared priorities, work plans, and progress.
