The Whispering Pines / Clinton Indian Band (WPCIB) is one of the seventeen bands within the Secwepemc territory. Traditionally from the Clinton area, WPCIB membership includes ancestral lineage from both the Pelltíq’t te Pésellkwes (People of the White Earth/ Kelly Lake) and Steke’7ús (People of the Little Hanging Bridge (Big Bar)). As a Band we are committed to serving our community and membership as well as building a future that upholds our Ancestral responsibilities.

Reporting to the Culture and Community Engagement Manager, the Secwepemctsín Language Teacher will be responsible for teaching Secwepemctsín in the northern dialect. The Secwepemctsín Language Teacher will be teaching in support of WPCIB language initiatives, facilitating teachings twice a week, until the end of the term. We welcome applications from candidates who may lack professional certification, but have relevent experience in teaching Secwepemctsín.

Key Responsibilities

· Develop, plan, and facilitate Secwepemctsín language instruction for learners in the Whispering Pines/Clinton Indian Band community.

· Design and implement engaging lesson plans and curriculum that support language acquisition and cultural learning objectives.

· Maintain accurate attendance records and monitor student participation to support learner success and program accountability.

· Foster a positive, inclusive, and culturally respectful learning environment that promotes student engagement and well-being.

· Utilize a variety of assessment methods to evaluate student learning, track progress,



and adjust instructional strategies as needed.

· Build and maintain positive relationships with students to encourage participation, confidence, and achievement.

· Develop and integrate digital learning resources and instructional materials to enhance student learning and accessibility.

· Monitor and document learner progress, providing feedback and support to help students achieve learning outcomes.

· Maintain effective communication and collaboration with the Language Coordinator and the Culture & Engagement Manager to ensure program goals and learner needs are met.

· Support the preservation and revitalization of the Secwepemctsín language through high-quality instruction and community-centered educational practices.

Qualifications

Required

· Secwepemctsín Proficiency certification;

· Minimum two years experience teaching Secwepemctsín;

· Knowledge of Secwepemctsín and Secwepemcúlecw;

· Valid driver’s license (BC Class 5) and satisfactory driving record;

· Criminal records check (vulnerable sector).

Preferred

· Professional teaching certification i.e Bachelors of Education, or Bachelors of Language Revitalization;

· Skilled experience teaching Secwepemctsín;

· Knowledge and appreciation of working in service of Truth and Reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples;

· Proficiency in using computers: Microsoft 365, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and various video conferencing platforms.

Part-Time (14hr/wk) Term to March 31, 2027, Potential Extension

Pay: From $31.48 per hour
