The RPN oversees the care of the residents under the guidance of the Registered Nurse and follows the guidance principles of the College of Nurses Standards of Care. The RPN is responsible for, and accountable for,



providing nursing care to residents and directing the works of PSW's. The RPN is a member of the Health Care Team in the home interfacing with other disciplines such as the Nurse Practitioner, Physician, Dietician, and Physiotherapist to develop the resident's plan of care.Job Duties and ResponsibilitiesAdministration of Medications and Treatments:Produce proper reporting and documentation for all residentsChart results of prescribed treatments and medicationsChart patient's behaviours and incidents not including medicationProvide doctor with updated information on residentsTranscribe orders by doctors or pharmacy as necessaryCommunication:Educating residents, family members, staff and studentsActing as mentors for students and providing them with all necessary knowledge and skills requiredAnswering phone calls and setting up appointments for residentsAssist as necessary with resident's personal care i.E. feeding, bathing, toiletingAssist transferring as necessaryEnsure that proper procedures are adhered to during palliative careEnsure that both resident and family members have what they require to be comfortableEquipment Inspection/Cleaning:Maintain the effectiveness of hearing aids for the impaired and replaces batteriesMonitor levels of liquid oxygen in portable tanks and fill tanksGeneral:Incumbents must keep up-to-date on all relevant legislation, collective bargaining agreements, County Policies and Procedures, etc.
