The role

We're looking for a seasoned family law paralegal to lead our support team. This role has two parts. You'll carry your own family law files alongside our lawyers, and you'll guide, train, and coordinate the other paralegals and legal assistants so that every file meets the same high standard.

You'll be the person the team turns to for answers, and a trusted partner to the lawyers on how the practice runs. If you're ready to step into leadership without giving up the substantive work you enjoy, this role is built for you.

What you'll do

Leading the team

- Supervise and mentor the firm's paralegals and legal assistants on family law work
- Assign and balance workloads, and make sure deadlines are met across the team
- Review drafts and filings for accuracy and quality before they go out
- Train new team members on family law procedures, firm systems, and best practices
- Improve workflows, templates, and checklists so the practice runs smoothly
- Act as the main point of contact between the lawyers and the support team

Handling your own files

- Draft pleadings, affidavits, and correspondence that are close to final on the first pass
- Prepare and file materials with the Court of King's Bench, including under the Family Focused Protocol and MIT process




- Manage financial disclosure, including Notices to Disclose, FDS packages, and supporting documents
- Prepare chambers and questioning materials
- Track limitation dates, filing deadlines, and file timelines
- Work directly with clients throughout the life of the file

What you bring

- At least 5 years of family law experience in Alberta
- Deep knowledge of Alberta family court procedures, including the Family Focused Protocol
- Experience supervising, training, or mentoring other legal support staff (formal or informal)
- Excellent organization and the ability to track many files and deadlines at once
- Sound judgment, discretion, and a calm, professional way with clients and colleagues
- Experience with LEAP or similar practice-management software (preferred)
