School District No. 64 (Gulf Islands) invites applications for a 0.7500 FTE Temporary position for a School Counsellor for elementary schools on Salt Spring Island, B.C., located in the Strait of Georgia between Vancouver and Victoria. The effective date is September 1, 2026 until June 30, 2027 or the return of the incumbent. The salary range for this position is $75,841 - $116,190.Role/Duties And ResponsibilitiesSupport students' academic, social and emotional well-being within an educational settingProvide social skills training to students as required, promoting personal and social development appropriate to developmental stagesProvide appropriate prevention and intervention services/instruction to individuals and classes to support behavioural, social-emotional needs or any other school-related issuesWork in consultation with Case Managers in the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans for students who require additional supportsServe as a member of the school's Critical Incident Response TeamServe as a member of the School-based TeamComplete and submit monthly and year-end reports/summaries as requiredWork collaboratively with parents, staff, administration, community groups,



and outside agencies in support of studentsWork within the established district and community agency referral processesAttend District Inclusive Education staff meetings when appropriateSupport the work of the school toward the achievement of growth plan goalsProvide and support student learning in areas such as peer helping, conflict resolution, social skills, and life skillsParticipate in and facilitate career development with an ongoing commitment to learn and implement new methodologies and strategiesNecessary QualificationsDocumented evidence of:BC Ministry of Education Teaching CertificateMaster's degree in Educational CounsellingExperience as an elementary school counsellorStrong background in conflict resolution, mediation, restorative practice and counsellingTraining in non-violent crisis interventionExperience developing and implementing effective strategies to assist teachers and parents in working with students with various challengesExperience in meeting the diverse educational, behavioural, social and emotional needs of students through a trauma-informed practiceDesired QualificationsDocumented evidence of:Experience with external agencies and inter-agency case managementKnowledge of and commitment to positive behaviour support systemsAbility to respond with flexibility, commitment, and compassion to a wide range of changes and challengesAbility to develop rapport with parents and colleaguesCommitment to professional growthPlease note: incomplete applications will not be considered.Thank you to all who apply; however, only those chosen for an interview will be contacted.
