Opportunity - Senior Staff Accountant

We're looking for a Senior Staff Accountant with recent Canadian public practice experience who is ready to take ownership of engagements and continue building their accounting and tax expertise.

At VR, you'll work with a diverse group of owner-managed businesses, professionals, investment holding companies and not-for-profit organizations, gaining exposure to a wide variety of accounting and tax matters.

While mentorship and support are always available, we're looking for someone who already has a solid foundation in Canadian accounting and tax principles and is ready to continue building on those skills.

What You’ll Do

You will be responsible for a diverse range of client engagements, including:

- Prepare ASPE and ASNPO review and audit engagements, including financial statement disclosures
- Independently prepare compilation engagements with a high degree of accuracy
- Identify issues, challenge assumptions and recognize tax planning opportunities
- Prepare corporate, personal and trust tax returns, as well as T4/T5 slips
- Various projects, as required (i.e. cash flow projections)
- Assist clients with practical accounting and tax solutions
- Manage CRA reviews, correspondence and client tax matters

What We’re Looking For

- Minimum 3 years of recent Canadian public practice experience is required




- Successful completion of an accounting program covering relevant Canadian accounting and tax concepts
- Experience with CaseWare, TaxPrep, QuickBooks and similar software
- Critical thinker and problem-solver
- Able to work independently while recognizing when to seek guidance
- Maintain high standards of quality and attention to detail
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills
- Candidates must reside in Canada and be available to work from our Calgary office
