Job Overview

CGR Fabrication is hiring an Apprentice Sheet Metal Fabricator for our fabrication shop. This is a shop-first role supporting HVAC and related sheet metal work for our commercial, industrial, and institutional projects across Nova Scotia. You will fabricate ductwork, fittings, and custom sheet metal products under journeyperson supervision, and work within the SMART Local 409 collective agreement.

Compensation and perks

Wages, vacation and holiday pay, pension, welfare, training, and all other monetary benefits are paid in accordance with the current SMART Local 409 Collective Agreement (Mainland Nova Scotia).

What you will do

- Layout, measure, cut, form, and assemble sheet metal duct, fittings, transitions, offsets, and custom HVAC products from drawings, cut sheets, and verbal instruction
- Operate shop equipment: shears, brakes, rolls, Pittsburgh / snap-lock machines, plasma or other cutting equipment, spot welders, and related tools
- Work with galvanized, stainless, aluminum, and other HVAC sheet metal
- Assist with material handling, labeling, quality checks, and prep for delivery or field install
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop
- Follow company and Local 409 safety rules (PPE, WHMIS, lockout, equipment use)
- Attend required apprenticeship technical training and complete hours toward journeyperson status
- Occasional field support for installs,



measurements, or shop-to-site coordination as needed

What we are looking for

- Experience fabricating sheet metal and HVAC-related products (duct, fittings, custom shop work)
- Comfortable reading drawings, taking measurements, and working to spec
- Willing to indenture / continue in the Nova Scotia sheet metal apprenticeship under Local 409
- Reliable, safety-minded, and able to work as part of a shop crew
- Physically able to stand for a full shift, lift and handle sheet metal and fabricated assemblies, and work around shop machinery

Skills(preferred)

- Welding experience (MIG / TIG / spot) on light-gauge sheet metal or light structural
- Existing Local 409 membership or registered NS sheet metal apprentice hours
- Plasma, coil line, or other production shop experience
- Valid driver license

Pay: $25.00-$38.00 per hour
