Sandy Lane Automotive West is looking for a dependable, mechanically inclined person to join our team as a Shop Helper and Tire Technician. This is a hands-on entry point into the automotive trade, combining tire service, vehicle care, shop support, and day-to-day facility responsibilities.

For the right person, this role can become a pathway into an automotive service technician apprenticeship. Growth will depend on demonstrated reliability, initiative, mechanical aptitude, quality of work, and readiness to take on greater technical responsibility.

What you will do

· Mount, dismount, balance, rotate, inspect, and repair tires using proper equipment and procedures.

· Set tire pressures, assist with TPMS service, and torque wheels to manufacturer specifications using calibrated tools.

· Handle European, high-performance, run-flat, and specialty wheels carefully to protect finishes and prevent damage.

· Inspect tires for wear, damage, punctures, and unusual wear patterns, then report concerns to the Service Team.

· Wash, clean, and detail client vehicles, including wheels and door jambs, and prepare completed vehicles for pickup.

· Move and park vehicles safely, record final mileage and vehicle location, secure keys, and ensure vehicles are locked.

· Assist technicians, complete parts runs, deliver or pick up vehicles, and help maintain efficient shop workflow.

· Clean and organize the shop, wash floors, empty waste and recycling, and keep equipment and work areas presentable.

· Support opening and closing routines, including moving vehicles, securing gates and doors,



and preparing the shop for the next day.

· Clear snow and ice and apply sand or de-icer when required.

What we are looking for

· A genuine interest in automotive repair and a desire to build a long-term career in the trade.

· A strong work ethic, dependable attendance, punctuality, and willingness to help wherever needed.

· Mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and respect for tools, equipment, client vehicles, and shop safety.

· The ability to follow instructions, complete checklists, communicate clearly, and work well with technicians and Service Advisors.

· The ability to prioritize time-sensitive work, especially vehicles required for waiting clients or scheduled pickups.

· A positive, team-oriented attitude and comfort working in a busy, physically active shop environment.

Qualifications

· Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s licence with a clean driver’s abstract.

· Ability to lift up to 100 lb and safely perform repetitive, physical work throughout the day.

· Tire-service, automotive, mechanical, detailing, or motorsport experience is an asset, but a strong entry-level candidate will be considered.

· Experience with tire changers, computerized wheel balancers, torque wrenches, run-flat tires, or TPMS systems is an asset.





· Commitment to using required PPE and following safe lifting, equipment, and shop procedures.

Pay: $16.00-$20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 42.5 – 45.0 per week
