Calgary, AB About The Role LodgeLink is hiring a Software Engineer III in Calgary to join our team and help create the future of workforce travel. We are seeking a talented engineer with a passion for building products that make a meaningful impact, a curiosity for learning new technologies, solid critical-thinking skills, and a user-focused approach to software development.

As part of the Software Engineering team, you will join an agile, audacious, inventive, collaborative, and dependable group with a bold vision for solving business problems through technology. In this role, you will contribute to the design, development, deployment, and support of cloud-native applications while working alongside software engineers, product managers, and engineering leaders. You'll play a key role in architectural discussions, influence technical direction, and help improve the scalability, reliability, security, and performance of our platform.

You'll help make the engineering team better through technical excellence, knowledge sharing, and a commitment to leaving systems and processes better than you found them.

This role is ideal for a highly skilled engineer who has demonstrated success delivering complex software solutions and is ready to take greater ownership of technical design, implementation, and operational excellence. As a Software Engineer III, you will independently drive significant initiatives, contribute to architectural direction, mentor other engineers, and play a key role in shaping the evolution of our platform while continuing to grow toward senior engineering role.

This position is based in Calgary, AB and is in-office with 20% flexibility to work from home .

Duties And Responsibilities

- Design, develop, test, and maintain software applications and services that support LodgeLink's platform and business objectives.
- Collaborate with software engineers, product managers, and stakeholders to deliver scalable, reliable, and maintainable solutions.
- Lead the technical design and implementation of complex features, services, and systems while balancing scalability, reliability, performance, and maintainability.
- Drive architectural improvements and participate actively in engineering decision-making, providing recommendations and technical guidance to the team.
- Apply software engineering best practices, including code reviews, automated testing, documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Contribute to the development and evolution of cloud-native solutions and distributed systems.
- Work within Agile development practices, participating in sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives, and backlog refinement activities.
- Identify and help address technical debt while balancing short-term delivery and long-term platform health.
- Support the deployment, monitoring, and ongoing maintenance of applications in production environments.
- Proactively identify opportunities to improve system performance, developer productivity, platform reliability, and engineering processes.
- Mentor and support junior engineers through knowledge sharing, technical coaching, code reviews, and cooperative problem-solving.




- Take ownership of projects from technical design through production deployment and operational support.
- Contribute to improving engineering processes, tooling, and development standards.
- Share knowledge, learn from teammates, and actively contribute to a collaborative engineering culture.

Qualifications

- 5+ years of software development experience building and supporting software applications in a professional setting.
- Experienced with frontend development using React and building backend microservices and APIs.
- Demonstrated experience delivering complex software solutions from design through production deployment and support.
- Strong understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and modern software engineering practices.
- Strong knowledge of SOLID principles, software architecture, clean code practices, design patterns, and maintainable application design.
- Experience developing and consuming APIs with a strong understanding of API-first development approaches.
- Experience with modern backend technologies and patterns such as Go, gRPC, REST APIs, or equivalent technologies.
- Experience designing and building cloud-native applications and distributed systems.
- Familiarity with modern software architecture patterns including:

- Microservices

- Loosely coupled systems
- Event-driven architectures
- Domain-Driven Design (DDD)
- Demonstrated ability to independently lead technical initiatives, make sound architectural decisions, and resolve complex technical problems.
- Experience mentoring engineers, conducting code reviews, and promoting engineering best practices across a development team.
- Familiarity with AI-powered development tools and frameworks is considered an asset.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to code quality, testing, continuous improvement, and collaborative software development.
- Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
