Keefer is hiring an experienced Sommolier for the coming Catski Season.

You'll work in a beautiful winter setting with a great group of people, helping create unforgettable memories for our guests in the lodge and, for those who like to shred pow, on the mountain.

Catski season typically runs early December-late March conditions dependant, transition into summer employment is possible.

About Keefer

Gostlin Keefer Lake Lodge was established in 2014 and is a remote, luxury backcountry Catski lodge near Cherryville, BC. In winter, our guests enjoy world-class Catskiing. In summer, we host private retreats, experiences and weddings. We aim to offer a unique, refined resort experience with a home-from-home feel.

About the Role

Sommeliers are responsible for delivering outstanding hospitality services throughout our guests’ stay, all the while coordinating with the Lodge Manager, Assistant Lodge Manager and the rest of the Keefer Lake Lodge team. Though the focus of this role is to deliver an exceptional wine tasting experience, Sommeliers are also responsible for assisting in dining service, administration, and general guest services.

Lodge life requires a team orientated approach and a willingness to take on any task required to support the lodge in success. Sommeliers should be willing and prepared to jump into any task required to ensure an outstanding guest experience throughout the duration of their stay.

What You'll Do

- Welcome guests to the lodge in a positive and engaging manner, and maintain a friendly and warm atmosphere throughout the lodge
- Set-up & take-down dining rooms and other food service areas for different meal periods; this includes polishing cutlery & glasses, setting dinnerware, folding napkins and maintaining general cleanliness of meal spaces
- Serve guests with a high-quality service standard and a warm & friendly presence
- Accurately receive and record wine/beverage orders from guests
- Be able to provide alternative options/recommendations for guests inquiring about different varietals




- Ensure you retain knowledge of guest allergies & dietary requirements
- Ensure you provide accurate & informative knowledge regarding the menus wine pairings for the evening
- Maintain an organized and approachable wine cellar
- Accurately track stock/inventory throughout your rotation
- Maintain stock & organization of supplies prior to, and throughout your shift
- Provide pars and order requests to management when required
- Communicate with the kitchen in a kind and professional manner, ensuring clear communication pertaining to head counts, allergies and timelines for service
- Provide alternative beverage service as needed and log transactions accurately
- Assist bartender with beverage preparation as needed
- Clean-up dining room and assist with dishes after food service
- Communicate inventory needs & repairs to management in a timely manner
- Perform any other duties around the lodge as required for business operations
- Maintain a clean & qualified appearance while abiding by dress code standards
- Maintain positive communication with supervisor and co-workers and encourage a team atmosphere
- Handle all guest service issues in an immediate and gracious manner
- Complete assigned duties within each shift

What We're Looking For

- Resume & proven experience as a Sommelier, experience in fine dining is an asset
- A sommelier certificate or diploma is an asset
- Extensive knowledge of wine varietals and appropriate pairing recommendations
- A friendly, positive, team-orientated attitude
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with guests, management, and co-workers
- Well-groomed and professional demeanor
- Adaptable to the requirements of the business and have a willingness to jump in and help wherever needed with a cooperative attitude




- Exemplary guest service skills with the ability to understand the guests’ needs, with the willingness to go above and beyond expectations
- Capable of maintaining composure and quality service in a fast-paced environment
- Able to prioritize duties in a fast-paced environment
- Physically capable to be on your feet for the majority of a working shift, and have the ability to reach, squat and lift up to 25 lbs
- Willingness to work a variety of shifts in different capacities within the lodge
- Awareness of environment and able to anticipate the needs of guests and fellow colleagues alike
- Capable of working independently and effectively managing required duties of the day
- Highly organized with a vigorous attention to detail
- A valid Serving it Right certificate is essential if handling alcohol
- A valid Food Safe certificate is an asset if handling food
- Ability to balance work & social life appropriately
- Passion for the outdoors is an asset

Schedule & Working Conditions

- 7 days on / 7 days off rotation, no more than 80 hours in any 2-week period
- Live on-site during your working rotation in shared staff accommodation
- Meals and accommodation provided while working
- Typical days are 1 0 hours, sometimes split shifts are required
- The lodge is 14 km down a logging road. It's regularly ploughed and accessible by 2WD or 4WD, but a reliable vehicle and winter tires are essential

Requirements

- Legally authorized to work in Canada
- Fluent in English
- Able to reliably commute to Cherryville, BC (V0E 2G3) or relocate before your start date
