Join our team as a Structure Maintainer and play a key role in preserving and repairing stations, tunnels, bridges, and drainage systems that support the safe operation of transit services across the city. The work will normally be performed on night shifts with Thursday/Friday as off days reporting from our Davisville Yard which may vary as directed by work assignments. This recruitment may be utilized for future opportunities that become available.

What You Will Do

The Structure Maintainer performs structure maintenance, repair and cleaning duties on station, tunnel and bridge structures and associated track drainage systems. The work involves water jetting, track drainage system cleaning, minor structural concrete repairs, placement of concrete and grout, set-up and operation of pressure washers and drainage cleaning equipment. In addition, the Structure Maintainer will carryout workcar monitoring duties, perform type 1 and 2 asbestos removal duties as required, assist the Structure Repairperson and the Structure Mechanic. You will assist with minor maintenance and repair work involving concrete work such has cutting out, chipping and removing concrete; assisting with layout and placement of reinforcing steel and assisting with construction of forms or templates, mixing and applying concrete materials to the deteriorated areas and finishing the concrete surface.

The work is performed under the direction of the Supervisor or their designate.

What Qualifications Do You Bring?

- Your educational background includes completion of Grade 10;




- You must have a valid non-probationary Class “G” Province of Ontario Driver’s License or better;
- May be required to attain certification for vacuum car operations and if necessary, pass the written and practical tests required for a class “DZ” Ontario driver’s licence;
- Must be certifiable to wear breathing apparatus as per the respiratory protection program;
- Your application must demonstrate you have practical experience and knowledge of mechanical and structural maintenance; placement of concrete; use of concrete and grouting materials; concrete repairs to track inverts; maintenance and use of auguring, snaking and pressure washing equipment. This would normally be acquired through approximately 6 months of structure drainage and cleaning maintenance and concrete rehabilitation/ construction experience;
- Must be able to comprehend verbal and written instructions as demonstrated by an ability to understand and follow published operating and safety regulations;
- Must be able to effectively communicate verbally in order to exchange information and instructions with the Transit Control Centre, supervisory and unionized personnel;
- Must attend and successfully complete training programs for Subway/SRT Rulebook, Surface Rulebook, first aid, CPR, WHMIS, scaffold safety, fall protection awareness, transportation of dangerous goods, asbestos awareness, nitrogen oxide, carbon monoxide and silica awareness, respiratory protection, spills training and other training as it relates to adherence to TTC policies, procedures, legislation and Acts, etc. and attend confined space training as required;
- Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees.
