About WCMRC

Western Canada Marine Response Corporation is a Transport Canada-certified marine response organization responsible for providing marine spill response services along British Columbia’s coast. Our work is operationally complex, time-sensitive, and essential to protecting coastal communities, marine environments, and critical infrastructure.

We are seeking an experienced and capable Systems Administrator to support the administration, security, maintenance, and ongoing improvement of WCMRC's technology environment. This position requires sound technical judgment, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively in both day-to-day operations and emergency response environments.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Director, Information Systems, the Systems Administrator supports the administration, security, maintenance, and ongoing development of WCMRC’s technology environment.

This is a hands-on role with exposure across Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Intune, Windows Server, endpoint management, cybersecurity, infrastructure, automation, and end-user support. The successful candidate will work across both cloud and on-premises environments and will play an important role in maintaining secure and reliable technology services throughout the organization.

Rather than working in a narrow technical silo, you will have the opportunity to support a broad range of systems and users, troubleshoot complex issues, contribute to infrastructure and technology projects, and help identify better ways of doing things.

What You’ll Do

Your work will include administering and supporting WCMRC’s Microsoft 365 and technology setting; managing user identities, access, devices, applications, and security controls; and providing Tier 2–3 technical support.

You will also support server and network infrastructure, system monitoring, patching, backups, endpoint security, and technology upgrades. Working with other members of the IS team and external partners, you will troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, perform root-cause analysis, and contribute to improvements that strengthen reliability, security, and the overall user experience.

Automation is also an important part of the role. You will use PowerShell and other tools to streamline routine administration, improve efficiency,



and reduce manual processes wherever practical.

During a response, exercise, incident, or other operational requirement, shifts, schedules, reporting relationships, priorities, and assigned duties may change to meet organizational needs and to align with the Incident Command System structure.

This role requires flexibility, resilience, sound judgment, and a clear commitment to operational readiness, safety, accountability, and effective emergency response.

Required Skills and Experience

We are looking for a technically capable Systems Administrator who can work independently while knowing when to collaborate or escalate. The successful candidate will bring:

- Diploma or degree in Information Technology, Systems Administration, Computer Science, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Approximately 2–3 years of progressive experience in systems administration, cloud services administration, infrastructure support, or a comparable technical environment.
- Hands-on experience administering Microsoft 365, including Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint Online and OneDrive.
- Experience with Microsoft Entra ID, including identity and access management, multi-factor authentication, Conditional Access, security groups, and user lifecycle administration.
- Experience administering Microsoft Intune and Windows Autopilot, including device provisioning, compliance, application deployment, and endpoint management.
- Experience working with Windows Server and Active Directory environments.
- Working knowledge of networking concepts including DNS, DHCP, VPNs and firewalls.
- Experience using PowerShell for systems administration, scripting, or automation.
- Experience with remote management tools, ticketing systems,



endpoint security, and technical troubleshooting.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical issues clearly to non-technical users.

Additional Assets Microsoft certifications related to Microsoft 365, Azure, Entra ID, Intune, security, or systems administration would be an asset, as would experience with hybrid cloud/on-premises environments and virtualization technologies such as Hyper-V or VMware.

Salary Range: $85,000 to $100,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications. A higher starting salary may be considered for applicants who bring additional relevant experience, advanced expertise, or exceptional qualifications aligned with the needs of the role. Ready to Apply?
