About VYPER

VYPER—Visionary Youth Peers for Equity & Revitalization—is an Indigenous youth-led initiative based in the Fraser Valley. Our work supports Indigenous youth to reconnect with culture, strengthen belonging, reclaim leadership, and influence the systems that affect their lives.

Through the Resurgence in Motion framework, VYPER works with schools, community organizations, and other partners to strengthen cultural identity, youth leadership, and institutional cultural safety. Resurgence Mediaworks is VYPER’s digital storytelling and knowledge-sharing stream, helping youth and communities share their experiences and making program learning accessible to others.

About the position The Youth Constellation & Resurgence Mediaworks Coordinator combines direct support for VYPER’s youth group with creative media teaching, content production, and knowledge sharing.

Working directly with the VYPER Youth Constellation, the coordinator will support young people to identify priorities, make decisions, and lead their own initiatives. They will help youth turn ideas into projects, gatherings, creative work, and community action while building confidence and practical skills.

The coordinator will teach and mentor youth in video production, social media content creation, photography, digital art, and storytelling. Alongside this work, they will create accessible media and learning resources that communicate VYPER’s approaches, experiences, and findings.

This position reports to the VYPER Program Manager and works collaboratively with the VYPER Systems Integration Coordinator and VYPER Developmental Evaluation Coordinator. Together, the team connects youth-led work with community partnerships, systems change, and ongoing program learning.

Primary responsibilities

Youth Constellation coordination

- Build consistent, respectful relationships with VYPER youth and support a welcoming, culturally grounded group setting.
- Coordinate youth gatherings, planning meetings, workshops, and project activities.
- Support youth to identify shared priorities, make collective decisions, and develop and lead initiatives that reflect their interests.
- Help youth organize project steps, timelines, materials, budgets, and events in collaboration with the Program Manager.
- Build youth leadership, facilitation, teamwork, and project coordination skills through practical mentorship.
- Identify barriers to participation and work with youth and the team to improve access and engagement.
- Support connections with Elders, cultural supports, community partners, and learning opportunities.

Creative media teaching and youth-led storytelling

- Facilitate hands-on learning in video production, photography, social media content creation, digital art, and digital storytelling.
- Teach practical skills such as story planning, filming, sound recording, editing, graphic creation, and preparing content for different audiences.




- Adapt activities to different interests, abilities, experience levels, and access to technology.
- Support youth to create media for their initiatives, cultural expression, community projects, advocacy, and VYPER communications.
- Mentor youth in digital literacy, ethical storytelling, consent, privacy, attribution, and responsible sharing.
- Support youth to decide whether and how their work is shared and to develop portfolios where they choose.

Resurgence Mediaworks production and communications

- Develop a practical media plan and content calendar with the Program Manager, aligned with youth priorities and program goals.
- Film, photograph, edit, and produce content about VYPER initiatives, youth leadership, and the Resurgence in Motion framework.
- Coordinate content for VYPER’s social media, video, and web platforms.
- Document gatherings, training, and partnerships with appropriate consent and cultural guidance.
- Create accessible, inclusive content that reflects diverse experiences and considers how gender and other intersecting factors affect participation and representation.
- Organize equipment, digital assets, project files, and publishing schedules.

Collaboration and knowledge sharing

- Work with the Systems Integration Coordinator to develop media and resources that help partners understand and apply the Resurgence in Motion framework.
- Work with the Developmental Evaluation Coordinator to translate evaluation findings, youth reflections, and implementation learning into clear, engaging resources.
- Develop digital toolkits, short videos, instructional materials, and other resources for community and institutional audiences.
- Support youth participation in program reflection, evaluation, and presentations.
- Contribute to knowledge-sharing events and distribution of resources through provincial and interprovincial networks.
- Track digital engagement and resource use in collaboration with the evaluation coordinator.
- Contribute media examples and project information to reporting, funding proposals, and sustainability planning.

Cultural accountability and ethical practice

- Follow Indigenous cultural protocols and seek guidance from Elders, youth, community partners, and program leadership.
- Uphold culturally grounded consent practices and respect community authority over stories, images, knowledge, and their use.
- Follow applicable community agreements, OCAP® principles, and research ethics requirements where relevant to the activity.
- Maintain confidentiality and support youth choice about participation, documentation, and public sharing.

Qualifications and experience

- Valid Class 5 license, and reliable vehicle




- Criminal records check and vulnerable sector search
- Experience supporting youth groups, youth-led initiatives, community projects, or peer leadership.
- Strong practical skills in digital media production, including video creation and editing, with skills in photography, social media, graphic design, or digital art.
- Ability to teach and mentor people with different levels of creative and technical experience.
- Experience planning content, managing digital platforms, and organizing creative projects.
- Ability to translate complex ideas and program learning into clear, accessible content.
- Strong facilitation, relationship-building, communication, and organizational skills.
- Commitment to Indigenous youth leadership, cultural humility, harm reduction, trauma-informed practice, and anti-oppressive approaches.
- Understanding of consent, privacy, accessibility, and ethical storytelling.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, balancing direct youth work with media production responsibilities.

Relevant education, training, professional experience, community involvement, and independent creative practice will be considered in combination. Lived experience of Indigeneity and experience working within Indigenous communities and Indigenous-led organizations are assets. Experience translating evaluation findings or creating educational resources is also an asset.

Compensation and benefits

$29.00 per hour for 37.5 hours per week.

Work environment

This position is based in Abbotsford with a combination of office, remote, and in-person community work. Regular direct engagement with the VYPER Youth Constellation is central to the role.

Some evening and weekend work is required for youth gatherings, events, and training. Occasional provincial and interprovincial travel may be required.
