Journeyperson or 2nd/3rd Period Apprentice

Hydro Scotford Inc. is seeking a motivated Journeyperson Welder or Registered 2nd- or 3rd-Period Welder Apprentice to join our growing team.

We are looking for someone who takes pride in producing high-quality work, values safety, and enjoys working in a collaborative industrial workplace. This position offers hands-on experience in welding, fabrication, repair, and refurbishment while working alongside skilled tradespeople on a variety of industrial equipment and customer projects.

What You'll Do

- Perform welding, fabrication, repair, and assembly work in accordance with drawings, specifications, and customer requirements.
- Read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, fabrication drawings, dimensions, and tolerances.
- Prepare, fit, weld, grind, and finish components to required quality standards.
- Accurately measure, lay out, and calculate dimensions required for welding and fabrication work.
- Participate in repair and refurbishment projects on industrial equipment and components.
- Safely operate welding equipment, hand tools, power tools, and measuring equipment.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area.
- Participate in safety meetings, training programs, and toolbox talks.
- Work closely with fellow tradespeople and supervisors to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and to specification.
- Support continuous improvement and quality initiatives within the welding department.
- Assist with field work and customer-site assignments as required.

Qualifications

Journeyperson Welder

- Alberta Journeyperson Welder Certificate or recognized equivalent.
- Red Seal Endorsement considered an asset.
- Experience in industrial welding, fabrication, maintenance, or repair environments preferred.

Apprentice Welder

- Registered 2nd- or 3rd-Period Welder Apprentice in Alberta.
- Actively progressing through the Welder apprenticeship program toward Journeyperson certification.
- Demonstrated foundational welding, fabrication, measurement, and trade-math skills.
- Willingness and ability to learn and develop under the guidance of experienced Journeyperson Welders.





Alberta currently identifies Welder as a three-period apprenticeship program leading to a Journeyperson Certificate, with Red Seal available as an optional endorsement. Preferred Qualifications & Assets The following certifications and experience would be considered assets:

- B-Pressure Welding Certification
- CWB Certification
- Welding Inspector certification or related inspection experience
- Experience with SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, and FCAW processes
- Experience in industrial repair and fabrication environments
- Knowledge of applicable welding codes, procedures, and quality standards
- Experience working with rotating equipment and industrial components
- CSTS 2020
- WHMIS
- H2S Alive
- First Aid certification

- Willingness to learn, take direction, and grow within the organization.

Requirements

- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence.
- Ability to work safely in an industrial shop environment.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel,



and perform physical work throughout the workday.
- Willingness to work overtime and occasional field assignments as required.
- Ability to read and understand work instructions, drawings, measurements, and job-related documentation.

Our Selection Process As part of our selection process, selected candidates may be asked to complete a short, job-related math and measurement skills assessment to demonstrate foundational skills used in welding, fitting, layout, and fabrication work.

Candidates may also be asked to participate in a practical welding assessment appropriate to their certification and apprenticeship level.

Education:
- AEC / DEP or Skilled Trade Certificate (preferred)

Experience:
