First Light operates a 10-unit transitional housing program that supports Indigenous people experiencing the intersections of marginalized gender identities, housing instability, and lived experiences of violence. The program centres Indigenous community members who are women, Two-Spirit, Indigiqueer, and gender diverse.Reporting to the Team Lead of Residential Services, the Inclusion Case Manager works within a collaborative residential team to help resident relatives build safety, wellness, housing stability, and independence. The role provides individualized case management, systems navigation, practical life-skills support, cultural connection, and coordinated referrals using culturally grounded, trauma-informed, harm-reduction, and gender-affirming approaches.Who You Are & What You CarryKnowledge of Indigenous identities, histories, cultures, and contemporary realities in Newfoundland and LabradorUnderstanding of gender diversity and gender-affirming care through a Two-Eyed Seeing approachAbility to build trusting relationships while maintaining confidentiality and professional boundariesStrong judgment, organization, creative problem-solving, and the ability to work independently and collaborativelyKnowledge of local housing, health, income, legal, cultural, and community support resourcesWhat You'll DoResident-Centred Case ManagementDevelop and regularly review individualized, resident-led support plans that reflect each person's goals, strengths, choices, culture, and safety needsProvide consistent one-to-one support and practical assistance to residents living in First Light's 10-unit transitional housing programSupport residents with housing stability, budgeting, food security, appointments, daily living skills, self-advocacy, and preparation for longer-term housingHelp residents navigate government, health, mental-health, income-support, legal, housing, and community systemsCoordinate warm referrals and collaborative service planning with internal First Light programs and external partners, with resident consentMonitor progress, identify emerging needs or risks, and communicate relevant updates to the Team Lead of Residential ServicesResidential Support and SafetyContribute to a welcoming, inclusive,



and culturally protected residential environment grounded in dignity, respect, harm reduction, and community careSupport resident orientation, community agreements, conflict resolution, and healthy shared-living practicesRespond calmly and appropriately to urgent, complex, or crisis situations in accordance with First Light policies and established safety proceduresDocument incidents, safety concerns, resident contacts, service plans, referrals, and outcomes accurately and within required timelinesWork with the residential team to maintain appropriate service and caseload coverage during staff absencesCulture Community and ProgrammingConnect residents with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, cultural supports, and First Light programming when requested and appropriateSupport the development and delivery of culturally relevant, gender-affirming, and community-building activitiesFoster opportunities for empowerment, intergenerational relationship building, healing, belonging, and connectionAdvocate respectfully with systems and service providers so residents' voices, rights, and needs are heardTeam and Organizational ResponsibilitiesParticipate in supervision, residential team meetings, case reviews, training, reflective practice, and professional developmentCollaborate with the Team Lead of Residential Services and colleagues to support consistent, coordinated service deliveryMaintain confidentiality, informed consent, accurate records, professional boundaries, and ethical practiceFollow First Light policies, privacy requirements, health and safety procedures, and program expectations, and perform other related duties within the scope of the positionSkills, Experience & RequirementsWe recognize that knowledge and strength come through education, professional experience, lived experience, cultural teachings, and community care.RequiredDiploma or degree in Social Work,



Indigenous Studies, Human Services, Community Development, or a related field; an equivalent combination of education, work experience, and lived experience will be consideredAt least two to three years of relevant experience in case management, residential support, housing, outreach, or individualized service provisionStrong understanding of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and practices and the impacts of colonization and systemic barriersStrong understanding of the intersections of Indigeneity, gender diversity, housing instability, trauma, and violenceStrong communication, relationship-building, documentation, advocacy, and conflict-resolution skillsValid driver's licence, access to a reliable vehicle, and satisfactory driver's abstractSatisfactory Record of Conduct and Vulnerable Sector CheckAssetsExperience working in transitional, supportive, or congregate housingExperience supporting Two-Spirit, Indigiqueer, and gender-diverse community membersTraining in First Aid and CPR, ASIST, Mental Health First Aid, TCI, harm reduction, trauma-informed practice, or related areasWorking ConditionsWork is completed in a 10-unit transitional residential setting and in community-based locationsLocal travel and some flexibility in working hours may be required based on resident, program, and coverage needsThe role involves complex and emotionally demanding situations and requires sound judgment, boundaries, and self-awarenessPreference will be given to qualified Indigenous residents of Newfoundland and Labrador.First Light celebrates diversity and is committed to creating an inclusive and supportive environment for all members of our team.
