**Job Title: Data Center Fiber Technician**
**Job Description**
This role supports a large-scale data center installation project, focusing on high-volume fiber optic deployment across multiple data halls.

You will pull, splice, test, clean, and certify thousands of fiber optic connections in a fast-paced, mission-critical environment.

The position requires strong hands-on fiber experience and prior work in data centers or similar facilities, with rotating shifts that may include nights and weekends.
**Responsibilities**
Pull and install armored fiber optic cabling throughout data center facilities in accordance with project plans and standards.

Perform precise fusion splicing of fiber optic cables to support high-density, mission-critical network infrastructure.

Test, certify, and troubleshoot fiber optic systems to ensure reliable performance and adherence to project specifications.

Clean and inspect fiber connections to maintain optimal signal quality and minimize network loss.

Terminate and label fiber optic cabling accurately, following established labeling schemes and documentation requirements.

Conduct OTDR and power meter testing to validate fiber performance and identify potential faults or degradation.

Document all test results and maintain clear, accurate installation records for quality assurance and future reference.

Work safely within active construction and data center environments, following site safety protocols and best practices.

Coordinate with project teams to maintain installation schedules, meet milestones, and uphold quality standards.

Support high-volume deployments involving thousands of fiber strand connections while maintaining attention to detail.

Read and interpret construction drawings and fiber cabling schedules to plan and execute installation work effectively.

Adapt to rotating shifts, including nights and weekends, to support continuous project operations.

Work in physically demanding construction settings, including extended periods of sitting and splicing work.

Collaborate with other technicians and trades on-site to ensure smooth integration of fiber with broader infrastructure.
**Essential Skills**
At least 2 years of fiber optic installation and fusion splicing experience in a data center or similar mission-critical environment.

Demonstrated experience pulling armored fiber optic cable in large-scale or complex facilities.

Strong fusion splicing skills with the ability to consistently produce low-loss splices.

Hands-on experience testing, cleaning, and certifying fiber optic infrastructure using appropriate tools and methods.

Experience working with multimode fiber systems in data center or enterprise environments.

Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, fiber cabling schedules, and related documentation.

Comfort working rotating shifts, including nights and weekends, to support project timelines.

Ability to work in a physically demanding construction environment, including extended periods of focused splicing work.

Experience with both multimode and single-mode fiber optic systems.

Proficiency in troubleshooting low voltage and data cabling issues in fiber-based networks.

Experience using common hand tools and equipment related to fiber installation and splicing.

Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records of installations and test results.
**Additional Skills & Qualifications**




Copper cabling installation and termination experience.

Exposure to electrical and construction environments, including working alongside other trades.

Experience with power, cooling, racks, and structured cabling in data centers.

Familiarity with facilities maintenance and data cable routing in large-scale sites.
CSTS or similar safety-related training or certification.

Experience as a data technician in high-volume installation projects.

Comfort using hand tools and testing equipment in dusty or active construction areas.

Ability to work effectively in a team-based, travel-intensive project setting.

**Work Environment**
You work on new construction and refurbishment projects in active data center and construction settings that can be dusty and physically demanding.

The atmosphere is air-cooled and can be cold in the winter.

Most of your day is spent in a single area focused on splicing work, with extended periods of seated, detailed tasks.

You live in hotels or camp-style accommodations with the crew, and travel to and from sites occurs via carpooling or buses.

There are three primary shift options: a 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. shift based in one town with commuting by bus to the site (with commuting time covered), a 3:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. shift based near the site, and an 11:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m. night shift also based near the site.

Overtime varies by shift, and days off differ, with some shifts offering both Saturday and Sunday off and others offering Sunday only.

The dress and personal protective equipment expectations align with typical construction and data center standards, requiring practical, safety-focused attire suitable for dusty, cool, and equipment-intensive environments.
**Job Type & Location**
This is a Contract position based out of Toronto, ON.
**Pay and Advantages**
The pay range for this position is $42.00 - $52.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
