Murray McKinnon Foundation (MMF), Specialized Services, Lavender Hill was the first provincial out of home care program providing mentorship and support to female and female identifying people aged 16-24 years of age who have been sex trafficked and commercially sexually exploited.
We are seeking a Full-Time Anti-Human Trafficking, Youth In Transition Worker (AHT YIT) who will be providing active engagement and assistance to the children/youth in the community (Peterborough County, Durham Region), supporting youth leaving care to maintain their safety planning by ensuring that they have access to vital resources and opportunities that promote housing first, a safety network and ongoing support system.
The AHT YIT Worker will be expected to work scheduled and predictable shifts; namely Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Some flexibility is required to meet the needs of the clients. Our schedule is designed with staff work-life balance, wellness and the needs of the program in mind. This program operates from a confidential location situated within Peterborough County. This is not a newly created position.

· Annual Salary range - $58,323.00 - $62,150.00 ($28.04-$29.88 hourly)

Successful Candidates will be expected to:
· Promote and engage with the Agency’s Mission, Vision and Value Statements as well as its Strategic Plan
· Foster and be responsible for the relational care of the young people in the program while using a survivor centered framework
· Provide and actively engage in an inclusive, anti-oppressive and anti-racist environment that promotes ‘felt’ safety to the young people we serve
· Conduct on-going observations, reporting and documentation of the young person’s well-being while responding to behaviors using a trauma-informed and healing centered lens
· Employ supportive and motivational counselling skills and as required, crisis intervention techniques
· Strive to meet the physical, cognitive, emotional, spiritual and cultural needs of each young person
· Utilize evidence informed proactive measures, programming and intervention practices grounded in harm-reduction principles that are culturally appropriate to each young person
· Actively assist the young person in establishing community connections and participating in pro-social activities
· Identify and communicate systemic barriers that impact the young person and assist in advocating for their mediation and or elimination
· Participate in team meetings, contribute to case management conversations, be connected at intake to all young people, provide appropriate referrals, and assist with transition from LH program
· Consult with, collaborate and invite feedback from members of the Care Team and CAS worker(s) in the development of care, safety, reintegration and transition planning as well as in crisis situations
· Participate in various networks (i.e. provincial AHT-YIT, YOW) as well as local anti-human trafficking symposiums and community events
· Ongoing collaboration with a variety of community partnerships (i.e. Durham Children’s Aid Society, Victim Services, Dnaagdawenmag Binnoojiiyag Child and Family Services) to develop/maintain a referral approach, and to create awareness of the program among youth leaving care that are vulnerable to or being sex trafficked.
The Successful Candidate must:
- Have a valid G driver’s license & willingness to travel to work site located in Peterborough County
- Provide proof of Immunization records,
must have physician’s note (fitness to work)
- Provide a current Broad Record Check
- Have proof of Post-Secondary education, Bachelor of Child and Youth Care or Social Worker is preferred; or a minimum level of education required in a 2 year diploma in a related field (social services diploma, mental health & addictions as examples) (For persons who identify as First Voice/Survivor of sexual exploitation and/or sex trafficking, the absence of education or professional membership experience will be taken into consideration)
- Have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a related field, but ideally in Anti-Human Trafficking
Preferred Experiences and Skills: · Knowledge of legislation related to child welfare, sexual exploitation and youth justice
· Specialized training on the topic of Sexual Exploitation and Human Trafficking
· Displayed competencies of self-care practices, personal/skilled boundaries & commitment to growth of interpersonal skills
· Sound understanding and ability to apply some of following counselling approaches: victim survivor centered, Feminist, cognitive-behavioral, Mindfulness.
· Demonstrated ability to work with neurodiverse persons, have a creative approach, excellent verbal and written communication skills and be open to working within an environment of both ‘grey’ and rigid structure The Successful Candidate may have these additional assets:
· Indigenous Perspectives and Designations
· Fluency in languages other than English
· Certifications such as ASIST, First Aid/CPR-C, and UMAB
· Previous work experiences in child welfare, youth justice, out of home care, and/or anti-human trafficking settings
