Assistant Manager – Supportive Housing

About Visvacare

Visvacare is a supportive housing facility serving adults living with mental health challenges and/or substance use, and those who have experienced homelessness. We provide a safe, structured, and respectful environment where residents are supported to build stability, independence, and a better quality of life.

About the Role The Assistant Manager maintains and supervises the facility, making sure residents receive consistent, high-quality support. Reporting to the General Manager and/or Directors, you'll oversee intakes, occupancy, compliance, staffing, and resident programming. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who is organized, calm under pressure, and committed to care of vulnerable individuals.

Key Responsibilities

Intake & Occupancy

- Conduct intake assessments of prospective residents to determine suitability and support needs
- Process move-ins, including documentation, resident agreements, orientation, and room readiness
- Build and maintain relationships with referral partners (e.g., CMHA, hospitals, shelters, community agencies) to generate new referrals
- Monitor and manage occupancy levels to keep the facility at capacity

Resident Support & Programming

- Develop, monitor, and update individual goal plans for each resident
- Track and encourage resident participation in facility programs and activities
- Respond to resident concerns and challenging behaviours using de-escalation and harm reduction approaches
- Coordinate with case workers, healthcare providers, and community supports as needed

Facility Operations & Compliance

- Make sure the facility meets all applicable regulations, policies
- Enforce safety protocols, including incident response, medication management procedures, and emergency preparedness
- Complete and submit incident reports,



occupancy reports, and other required documentation accurately and on time
- Oversee the maintenance and upkeep of the facility, reporting and following up on repair needs

Staffing & Administration

- Supervise all staff, including scheduling, shift coverage, and day-to-day direction
- Support the hiring, onboarding, and training of current staff
- Plan and manage the facility menu, keeping it nutritious and within budget
- Collect resident fees, maintain accurate payment records, and follow up on arrears

Qualifications

- Post-secondary education in Social Work, Social Service Work, Mental Health & Addictions, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Experience in supportive housing, mental health, addictions, shelter, or a related setting (Preferred)
- Supervisory or team lead experience is an asset
- Strong understanding of trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and crisis de-escalation
- Excellent organizational, documentation, and time-management skills
- Comfortable with basic computer use (email, spreadsheets, reporting systems)
- Able to handle sensitive situations with professionalism, discretion, and empathy

Required Certifications / Checks

- Current Standard First Aid & CPR
- Naloxone administration training (or willingness to obtain)
- Clear Vulnerable Sector Check
- Valid Ontario driver's license and access to a vehicle (an asset)
