About the Role

Second Cup at St. Michael's Hospital is seeking a reliable, customer-focused Barista to join our team. As a 24-hour location serving hospital staff, patients, and visitors around the clock, we're looking for someone who can work independently, maintain high standards of cleanliness and sanitation, and deliver friendly, efficient service — including during overnight shifts.

Key Responsibilities

- Prepare and serve coffee, espresso-based beverages, and other menu items to Second Cup standards
- Operate cash register and handle transactions accurately
- Maintain a clean, sanitized workstation, equipment, and customer area at all times, following food safety and hospital hygiene protocols
- Restock supplies, inventory, and ingredients as needed
- Provide friendly, skilled customer service to hospital staff, patients, and visitors, including during high-stress or late-night situations
- Work independently with minimal supervision, particularly during overnight shifts
- Communicate effectively with team members and shift leads/supervisors regarding stock, issues, or handoffs




- Follow all hospital security and access protocols for overnight/after-hours work
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations at all times

Requirements

- Previous barista or customer service experience preferred
- Strong understanding of food safety, cleanliness, and sanitation standards
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and stay focused during quiet overnight hours
- Comfortable working in a hospital environment (24/7 operations)
- Flexibility to work overnight shifts, weekends, and holidays as required
- Punctual, dependable, and able to handle a rapid-paced or unpredictable environment
