Overview A Carpenter 1 performs skilled carpentry, construction, renovation, and maintenance work in support of organizational facilities and infrastructure. The successful candidate will possess a Red Seal Carpenter Certification, a valid 403A or 438A trade license, strong knowledge of construction practices and tools, and the ability to deliver high-quality work safely in outdoor and marine environments.

Responsibilities

General activities and functions include, but are not limited to:

- Perform preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance on buildings, structures, facilities, and related infrastructure.
- Plan, layout, construct, install, repair, and maintain a wide range of carpentry components, including formwork, concrete foundations, floors, walls, ceilings, roofs, heavy timber framing, stair systems, handrails, doors, windows, and interior and exterior finishes.
- Complete renovation, alteration, and construction projects, ensuring all work meets applicable building standards, specifications, and quality requirements.
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, specifications, and work orders to determine material requirements, project scope, and construction methods.
- Measure, cut, shape, assemble, install, and repair a variety of construction materials and building components using hand and power tools.
- Perform demolition activities safely and efficiently, including dismantling structures and preparing sites for renovation or new construction.
- Inspect completed work, identify deficiencies, and implement corrective actions to maintain the highest standards of workmanship and safety.
- Coordinate and communicate effectively with management, supervisors, project managers, contractors, and other trades to support project delivery and operational requirements.




- Ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and within established timelines while maintaining a clean, organized, and secure work environment.
- Adhere to all corporate policies, safety procedures, regulatory requirements, and site-specific protocols.
- Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to apprentices and junior team members as required.

Qualifications and Abilities

- Valid Red Seal Carpenter Certification.
- Valid trade license 403A (General Carpenter) or 438A (Industrial Wood Worker).
- Able to perform all types of carpentry from trim and cabinet work to heavy timber and framework.
- Responsible for the safe operation of power tools and all tools and machines of trade.
- Must have good command of English, including reading, writing, and speaking clearly.
- Must be in good physical condition and able to work outdoors, climb and work at varying heights.
- Must be able to swim, and tread water for 2 minutes.
- Proven carpentry experience in commercial and/or industrial construction.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and tools.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and plans.
- Ability to work in the Marine Environment.
- Ability to work in confined spaces and work at heights.




- Strong attention to detail and pride in quality workmanship.
- Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License; Class DZ would be a definite asset.
- Must possess a recognized First Aid Certificate or obtain one within three (3) months.
- Training and experience on use and operation of a forklift is desirable (certification required to operate).
- Able to withstand working in all types of weather, including summer heat and humidity, and winter conditions.
- Able to lift up to 25 Kgs (50 lbs.) floor to waist.
- Must be able to work independently and with limited supervision, as well as work well as part of a team.
- Must be WHMIS – GHS certified or able to attain within three months.

Hours of Work: Scheduled for 7.5 hours per day, 5 days per week, between 700 to 1800h. Shift work may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required.
