Role Description The Civil Estimator is a full-time, on-site role based in Kamloops, BC. This position is responsible for preparing detailed cost estimates for civil construction projects, including earthworks, utilities, roadworks, and related infrastructure. Day-to-day tasks include reviewing drawings and specifications, performing quantity takeoffs, obtaining and analyzing subcontractor and supplier quotations, and preparing tender submissions and budgets.

Estimator collaborates with project managers, engineers, and site personnel to refine estimates, identify risks, and support value engineering efforts. The role also involves maintaining cost databases, tracking project costs versus estimates, and contributing to continuous improvement in estimating practices.

Qualifications

- Estimation and technical skills:



Robust background in civil construction estimating, quantity takeoffs, and cost analysis using industry-standard methods and tools.
- Project and documentation skills: Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and contract documents, and to prepare clear, accurate estimate reports and tender documents.
- Analytical and numerical skills: Proficiency with spreadsheets and estimating software, strong numerical accuracy, and capability to analyze bids, unit rates, and project cost drivers.
- Communication and collaboration skills: Effective written and verbal communication, with the ability to collaborate with project teams, suppliers, and subcontractors in a professional manner.
- Organizational and time-management skills: Demonstrated ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines, prioritize tasks, and maintain attention to detail under time pressure.
- Education and experience: Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, along with relevant experience in civil estimating or construction; equivalent experience may be considered.
- Industry and software knowledge: Familiarity with local construction practices and pricing in BC, and experience with estimating and project management software; MS Office proficiency required.
- Additional assets: Knowledge of health and safety standards, experience working with consultants and public or private owners, and a commitment to ethical, transparent estimating practices.
