OVERVIEW

At Michael Garron Hospital (MGH), Advanced Practice Nurse Educators are known as Clinical Resource Leaders (CRLs). The CRL is a Master's-prepared Registered Nurse who provides advanced leadership in nursing qualified practice, clinical education and competency development, quality and safety, evidence-informed practice and clinical practice improvement.

The CRL functions as a clinical practice expert, educator, coach, mentor, knowledge translator and change leader. As a member of the clinical leadership team, the CRL works with program leadership, Nursing Practice & Education, physicians and interprofessional partners to translate standards, evidence, quality findings and organizational priorities into safe, high-quality, patient- and family-centred care.

The CRL is jointly accountable to the clinical program and Nursing Practice & Education. The program leader provides direction on local clinical, quality and operational priorities; the Nursing Practice & Education leader provides direction on professional practice standards, education frameworks, competency expectations and enterprise-wide nursing priorities.

EDUCATION

- Baccalaureate degree in Nursing.
- Master's degree in Nursing, Education, Health Professions Education, or another relevant health-related discipline.
- Current RN registration in the General Class with the College of Nurses of Ontario, in good standing and entitled to practice in Ontario.
- CNA certification reflective of the patient population and care needs.
- Geriatric certification preferred.
- Gentle Persuasive Approaches (GPA) certification is an asset.




- Formal preparation in nursing or clinical education through a recognized nurse educator certificate program or equivalent, including adult/health-professions learning, education design, competency assessment and evaluation. If not completed at the time of hire, completion of an organization-approved program within 36 months is required.
- Current BLS certification.

QUALIFICATIONS

- Minimum five (5) years of recent clinical nursing experience, including recent experience in acute General Internal Medicine and/or geriatric patient population.
- Demonstrated clinical leadership and experience in clinical education, professional practice or staff development.
- Demonstrated ability in learning-needs assessment, education design/delivery/evaluation, competency assessment and coaching.
- Knowledge of quality improvement, patient safety, evidence translation, change leadership and project management.
- Strong communication, facilitation, consultation, relationship-building, critical-thinking and organizational skills; ability to influence without formal managerial authority.
- Good work and attendance record required.
