Deckhand – Factory Freezer Trawler

Fame Fisheries Limited is currently seeking qualified candidates for Deckhand positions onboard our factory freezer trawler, M/V Newfound Pioneer operating out of St. John’s, NL.

Deckhands are responsible for the protected and efficient execution of fishing gear operations. The position requires strong practical knowledge of stern-trawler fishing, twine work, sound judgment on deck, and the ability to work as part of a co-ordinated team.

Minimum Qualifications

- Valid passport
- Valid Transport Canada Marine Medical
- Required MED/STCW safety training
- Strong practical experience with trawl fishing operations and fishing gear
- Experience with twin-rig or comparable stern-trawler operations and a good working knowledge of twine is considered an asset
- Ability to work safely as part of a team in demanding weather and deck conditions
- Good understanding of workplace safety procedures
- Ability to work rotating watches, follow instructions, and work effectively as part of a team
- Previous experience on deck onboard a factory trawler or other fishing vessel is considered an asset





Responsibilities

Deckhand responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Trawl gear preparation, deployment, hauling, and recovery operations
- The safe handling, maintenance, and storage of trawl gear and associated equipment
- Following safe work procedures at all times

Vessel Details

M/V Newfound Pioneer is a Canadian twin-rig high-capacity factory stern trawler which is fully equipped with an onboard processing and freezing factory. The vessel operates with a crew of approximately 25.

Rotation and Benefits The position operates on a rotation basis.
