POSITION TITLE: Director of Education

DEPARTMENT: Education

CLASSIFICATION: MGEX-01

SALARY RANGE: Starting at $108,562.00 Per Annum

POSITION TYPE: Full time, Permanent

LOCATION: Saskatoon, SK

ACCOUNTABLE TO: Deputy Chief, Education

Brief Overview:

Reporting to the Deputy Chief of Education, the Director of Education is responsible for leading the planning, implementation, delivery, and evaluation of their education portfolios in support of the Ministries strategic priorities, Ministerial direction, and the vision, mission, and values of the Métis Nation-Saskatchewan (MN-S). The Director provides distinctions-based and operational leadership, ensures fiscal accountability, oversees program and service excellence, manages risk, and adopts collaborative relationships with citizens, governments, educational institutions, and community partners. The Director leads a team of professionals and is accountable for the achievement of ministerial outcomes, compliance with funding agreements, and advancement of educational opportunities for Métis citizens.

Key Responsibilities:

Distinctions-Based Leadership

- Lead the planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of assigned education portfolios, programs, services, and initiatives.
- Support the execution of the assigned Ministries distinctions-based plans, operational plans, annual work plans, and ministerial priorities.
- Provide leadership and expert advice to the Deputy Chief, Ministers, and executive leadership team on education-related matters.
- Translate distinctions-based priorities into operational outcomes, measurable objectives, and performance indicators.
- Identify emerging trends, opportunities, risks, and legislative developments impacting education and Métis citizens.
- Promote continuous improvement, innovation, and evidence-based decision-making.
- Support distinctions-based approaches that reflect Métis culture, history, language, traditions, and self-government objectives.

People Leadership

- Lead, mentor, coach, and develop a high-performing team.




- Establish clear expectations, accountability measures, and performance objectives.
- Conduct performance planning, coaching, and performance evaluations.
- Support succession planning and employee development initiatives.
- Advance a respectful, inclusive, culturally safe, and values-based workplace culture.
- Promote employee engagement, collaboration, and professional growth.

Stakeholder and Government Relations

- Develop and maintain productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with federal, provincial, Indigenous, educational, and community partners.
- Represent MN-S on committees, working groups, advisory bodies, and partnership initiatives.
- Support engagement activities with Métis citizens, Regions, Locals, educational institutions, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and community organizations.
- Ensure effective communication, collaboration, and consultation with Minister assigned portfolios.

Financial and Risk Management

- Develop and manage annual and multi-year budgets.
- Monitor expenditures and ensure responsible stewardship of public resources.
- Prepare financial forecasts, variance reports, and operational reports.
- Ensure compliance with funding agreements, legislation, policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate operational, financial, legal, and reputational risks.
- Provide recommendations to support sound decision-making and risk management practices.

Operational Excellence

- Oversee program and service delivery to ensure quality, effectiveness, and achievement of outcomes.
- Establish operational plans, policies, processes,



and procedures supporting departmental objectives.
- Monitor project performance, deliverables, and reporting requirements.
- Utilize data, research, stakeholder feedback, and performance measures to inform decision-making.
- Ensure programs and services align with MN-S priorities and citizen needs.
- Prepare reports, briefing materials, recommendations, and presentations for senior leadership and governance bodies.

Knowledge and Skills:

- Advanced knowledge of educational systems, programs, policies, and funding environments.
- Strong understanding of Métis culture, history, governance, and community priorities.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Strong financial management and budgeting capability.
- Ability to interpret legislation, policies, agreements, and reporting requirements.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Experience leading complex programs, projects, and teams.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in Education, Public Administration, Business Administration, Social Sciences, Indigenous Studies, or a related discipline.
- Master's degree is considered an asset.
- Minimum seven (7) years of progressively responsible leadership experience, including experience managing programs, projects, budgets, and teams.
- Experience working with Indigenous governments, educational institutions, community organizations, or public sector environments is preferred.
- Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered.

Additional requirements:

- Must provide an acceptable Criminal Record Check prior to commencing employment.
- Valid Saskatchewan driver’s license and access reliable transportation
- The Travel requirement for this position is 20%
