Company Overview:

The Prairie Agricultural Machinery Institute (PAMI) was founded in 1975, on the recommendation of a federal commission on farm machinery advocating for the creation of a central agency for testing and evaluating farm machinery in Canada. PAMI’s mandate has evolved to include researching, designing, building and testing technology in the agriculture, mining and transportation industries. PAMI does not retain intellectual property rather it supports the IP development of its clients and collaborates in technology creation.

Since its inception, PAMI has operated out of two highly specialized technological facilities in Humboldt, SK and Portage la Prairie, MB. While both sites are state-of-the-art facilities, PAMI’s most valuable asset continues to be its staff of 35-50 employees who encompass a variety of backgrounds including agriculture, engineering, mining, trades, and instrumentation.

The Opportunity:

This role is a key leader of the senior management team that reports directly to the President/CEO. The Director, Finance is responsible for the organization’s overall financial (including risk mitigation) and administration processes. The director leads the Business Enablement team consisting of 3 to at most 7 direct reports, including contractors.

Duties & Responsibilities:

The following are the general responsibilities of this position but are not inclusive of all detailed tasks that may be required to be successful:

- Oversee accounting and payroll functions for PAMI
- Responsible for cashflow management for PAMI
- Manage budget of overall organization with the CEO
- Provide direction to PAMI’s Information Technologies (IT) service provider to ensure infrastructure is operational and complies with the organization’s requirements
- Participate and represent the Business Enablement team in annual priorities and budget planning activities
- Provide coaching, guidance, direction, and leadership to the Business Enablement team




- Lead recruitment and resourcing for the Business Enablement team
- Lead the organization’s continuous improvement efforts regarding corporate policies and procedures
- Abide by applicable laws, regulations, and PAMI Policies and Procedures
- Oversee the completion of monthly and year end financials
- Review and deliver the Company’s monthly financial reporting packages
- Lead the annual audit
- Evaluate and strengthen internal controls of the Corporation further to the annual findings of the Provincial Auditor’s Office
- Administer property and liability insurance programs for the operations of PAMI
- Keep the CEO aware of the financial position and financial development of PAMI
- Provide solutions and action plans to address areas where the organization is not operating efficiently
- Review and monitor information technology, leaseholds, and procurement
- At the request of the CEO - attend meetings of the Board and its Committees and present necessary financial information
- Perform any other financial duties requested by the CEO (annual budget planning and forecasting)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

- Specialized training – GAAP, PSAB, accounting programs (Sage, QuickBooks); and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems
- General knowledge – MS Office, Projects Online, operations, supervisory skills
- Experienced and well-respected people manager
- Creative problem-solving skills and demonstrated ability to complete projects on schedule and within budget requirements

Credentials and Experience:

- University undergraduate degree with appropriate accounting or finance designation with 5+ years’ experience
