Location: Edmonton, AB

Pay: $44.20 - 49.20 per hour

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM

Position Overview

AltaPro Electric is currently looking for an experienced Electrical Purchasing Manager to lead and oversee the company’s electrical purchasing function.

This role is responsible for managing day-to-day material procurement, supplier relationships, purchasing systems, inventory coordination, purchase orders, reporting, and cost control while working closely with Project Managers, Foremen, Operations, Accounting, and Warehouse personnel.

The successful candidate will have strong knowledge of electrical materials, excellent organizational and negotiation skills, and the ability to maintain accurate purchasing information while identifying opportunities to reduce costs, improve material availability, and streamline procurement processes. The Purchasing Manager will also provide leadership, training, and mentorship to the Electrical Purchasing Assistant and other employees involved in purchasing functions.

Responsibilities

· Lead the day-to-day electrical purchasing function and ensure purchasing systems and records remain accurate and current.

· Create, review, approve, and issue purchase orders with accurate quantities, pricing, project information, cost codes, and supporting details.

· Ensure Project Managers and Foremen follow established purchasing and material-ordering processes and address incomplete or inaccurate requests.





· Maintain strong working knowledge of electrical materials required for day-to-day project purchasing and provide guidance on material selection when required.

· Coordinate the use and tracking of shop stock and inventory to reduce unnecessary purchases and improve material utilization.

· Monitor backorders, shortages, substitutions, and delivery issues and communicate impacts to Foremen and Project Managers before they affect project schedules.

· Proactively identify alternate products, equivalent materials, and more economical purchasing options.

· Develop and maintain purchasing reports that provide useful information to Project Managers, Foremen, and senior management.

· Maintain accurate part numbers, descriptions, pricing, and related information within purchasing and inventory systems.

· Build and maintain strong supplier relationships and negotiate pricing, delivery terms, freight, and other purchasing conditions.

· Identify opportunities to reduce freight costs, restocking fees, returns, backorders, and unnecessary material expenditures.

· Coordinate material returns and ensure credits are received and processed promptly.

· Review purchase orders questioned by Reception, Accounting, Project Management, or other departments and resolve issues in a timely manner.

· Ensure appropriate cost codes are selected for standard material purchases, change orders, and project-specific purchasing.

· Ensure Type A, Type G, and Type S material orders are properly identified, coded, documented, and communicated to the appropriate Project Manager.

· Communicate new products, materials, and labor-saving solutions to Foremen and Project Managers.

· Confirm receiving documentation with Foremen when packing slips or receiving information have not been submitted.

· Complete and coordinate quarterly updates to Field Requisition forms and purchasing information for project use.

· Maintain accurate and timely timesheet and administrative entries related to the department.

· Train, mentor, and support the Electrical Purchasing Assistant and others involved in purchasing activities.

· Continuously review purchasing processes and recommend improvements that increase efficiency, accuracy, and cost effectiveness.

· Perform additional purchasing and operational duties as required by Management.

Qualifications





· Previous experience in electrical purchasing, procurement, electrical distribution, electrical warehousing, or a related construction environment is strongly preferred.

· Having a journeyman electrician certificate is strongly preferred.

· Strong knowledge of commercial electrical materials, equipment, suppliers, and purchasing processes.

· Previous leadership, supervisory, or mentoring experience is preferred.

· Demonstrated ability to negotiate effectively with suppliers and identify cost-saving opportunities.

· Strong understanding of purchase orders, material cost coding, inventory management, receiving, returns, and back orders.

· Experience with Sage 300 CRE or similar purchasing, inventory, or accounting software is considered an asset.

· Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel, Outlook, and Teams.

· Excellent organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.

· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high level of attention to detail.

· Strong written and verbal communication skills.

· Ability to build productive working relationships with suppliers, Foremen, Project Managers, Operations, Warehouse, and Accounting.

· Ability to work independently, make sound purchasing decisions, and take a proactive approach to resolving material and procurement issues.

Pay: $44.20-$49.20 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 – 44.0 per week
