PERSONAL INSURANCE BROKER
No Insurance Experience? That’s Okay. No Work Ethic? Probably Not.
Full-time | Bethany, ON | In-office
You don’t need to know insurance.
You don’t need a fancy insurance resume.
And you definitely don’t need to have spent the last five years dreaming about being an insurance broker.
But you do need to be someone who wants to build a career, is willing to work for it, and isn't afraid of a challenge.
At Sentinel Risk Insurance Group, we're looking for someone at the beginning of their career who is ready to learn the insurance business from the ground up. We’ll teach you the industry, support you through your RIBO licensing requirements, and give you the tools and experience to become a successful Personal Insurance Broker.
So, what's the catch?
The work.
Getting your RIBO licence isn't a participation trophy.
There is studying involved. There are exams. There is a lot of information to learn, understand and apply. The licensing process takes commitment, and the exams are not easy.
We don't expect you to know insurance when you walk through the door. We do expect you to take the learning seriously.
If you're the person who needs to be reminded to study, follow up, show up or get things done, this probably isn't going to be a great fit.
If you're the person who says "I don't know how to do that yet, but I'll figure it out" now we're interested.
Why insurance?
Insurance is one of those industries most people don't think about until they need it, and then they realize how important it actually is.
As a Personal Insurance Broker, you'll work with real people on some of the biggest things they own and protect: their homes, cars and financial security.
It's also an industry where you can actually build something.
You can start in Personal Insurance and grow into sales, commercial insurance, client service, leadership, management, operations or other specialized roles.
You don't have to know exactly where you want to end up on day one.
You just need to want to get somewhere.
What we're looking for:
We're not looking for someone who already knows insurance.
We're looking for someone who has drive.
You might be coming from retail, hospitality, customer service, sales, administration, trades, another industry entirely or straight out of school.
What matters more to us is how you approach work.
You are someone who
- Wants a career, not just a job
- Shows up and takes responsibility for their work
- Learns quickly and asks questions
- Can take feedback and use it
- Is comfortable being uncomfortable while learning something new
- Doesn't give up when something is difficult
- Enjoys talking to people
- Takes pride in doing things properly
- Wants to keep learning and growing
We're not expecting you to be perfect. We are expecting you to care.
You will be in the office
This is a mandatory in-office position.
That's intentional.
You're starting something completely new, and we believe some of the best learning happens by being around people who know what they're doing. Hearing how an experienced broker handles a difficult client. Asking a question when something doesn't make sense. Listening to conversations. Seeing how a file actually gets handled.
You can't learn all of that from a training manual or a Teams call.
We're investing time in teaching you this business, and we want you in the room learning with us.
The RIBO part To become a licensed Personal Insurance Broker in Ontario, you'll need to complete the required RIBO licensing process.
That means studying. A lot of it.
You'll need to learn insurance legislation, principles, products, coverage, ethics and qualified responsibilities and then prove you understand it through the required examinations.
We'll support you through the process, but we can't write the exams for you.
If the idea of studying outside of your regular workday, preparing for an exam and pushing yourself to learn something completely new sounds awful, this probably isn't the career for you.
If it sounds like a challenge you're willing to take on because you're building something for yourself, keep reading.
What you get at Sentinel
You won't be thrown into a chair with a login and told to figure it out.
You'll have people around you who know the business and want you to succeed.
You'll get training, coaching, hands-on experience and exposure to the real work of being a broker.
And you'll have room to grow.
We're a growing Ontario brokerage with opportunities across Personal Insurance, Commercial Insurance, Sales, Client Service, Leadership, Management and Operations.
We don't hand out careers.
You build them.
If you're still reading...
Good.
Now tell us why you think we should hire you.
We don't need a cover letter full of corporate buzzwords. In fact, we'd rather you didn't.
Tell us
Why are you looking for a career change, what are you hoping to build for yourself, and why do you think you have what it takes to build a career at Sentinel?
We're much more interested in that answer than whether your resume has the perfect keywords.
Your resume tells us what you've done.
This is your chance to tell us what you're capable of.
If you're ready to put in the work, learn something new and build something for yourself, we want to hear from you. Email
