Sagamok Anishnawbek is hiring two (2) Environmental Monitors to work as a team on the Northeast Power Line (NEPL) and North Shore Link (NSL) projects, in collaboration with Hydro One Networks Inc. (HONI) and Waasmoowin Opportunities and Consultation Council (WOCC).

JOB SUMMARY:

Environmental Monitors will work as part of a team to protect lands, waters, natural resources, and cultural heritage along the NEPL and NSL transmission line corridors. Working primarily in pairs and active construction areas, Monitors will combine scientific practices and Indigenous knowledge to observe construction activities and support compliance with environmental protection plans and project commitments.

The projects extend from Hanmer, Ontario, to Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Monitors will support environmental and cultural protection before, during, and after construction, including the protection of sacred sites, Indigenous lands, and resources.

About Waasmoowin Opportunities and Consultation Council (WOCC)

WOCC is a corporate partnership of eight First Nations that will collectively hold 50% equity ownership of both the NSL and NEPL transmission line projects alongside HONI once commissioned in late 2029.

Position Details

- Wage: $30–$35 per hour (pending experience)
- Training: Paid training will be provided

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Understanding & awareness of construction activities
- Understanding & awareness of environmental compliance and traditional land use protection requirements
- Strict adherence to health and safety requirements
- Completion of checklists
- Community engagement activities
- Field observation and note-taking
- Data collection & documentation, in both written and digital formats
- Regular reporting to First Nation and WOCC Project Team
- Compliance issues tracking & follow up
- Ongoing training as required

Training and support will be provided for all responsibilities. Daily work scheduling and coordination of Environmental Monitors will be provided by the WOCC Monitoring Team in collaboration with each First Nation.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

- Respect for, sensitivity towards, and knowledge and understanding of Anishnawbek culture, traditions, and the Seven Grandfather Teachings.
- Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.




- Must be able to work extended hours from time to time, as project requirements dictate.
- Must be comfortable working outdoors for prolonged periods of time and in varying weather conditions.
- Must adhere strictly to all health and safety requirements.
- Is subject to six months' probation.
- Clear Criminal Records Check (CPIC) that is valid within six months.
- Valid Class "G" driver's licence is a requirement.
- Valid driver's licence and reliable vehicle for on-the-job use.
- Must be willing and able to travel to various locations along the construction corridor.
- May be required to stay in a hotel or construction camp from time to time.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

- Strong interest in environmental and cultural heritage protection
- Ability to work within a team
- Comfortable working outdoors for prolonged periods of time
- Confident outdoor skills
- Good communication skills
- Experience using computers or tablets
- Ability to read and understand project communications
- Ability to work extended hours from time to time and on both weekdays and weekends
- Valid Class “G” drivers license is a requirement.

No previous environmental monitoring experience is required. Paid training will be provided.
